Ocoee is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Ocoee was John Saylor who arrived in 1836. A post office called "Ocoee" was established in 1851, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The name comes from Indian "ochee", meaning "great watercourse." In 1875, two brothers named Wessels purchased land east of Ocoee and built a cabin which still stands today as the only remaining structure in the community. They were soon joined by their brother-in-law George Hagerty and others who developed more homes around them. In 1902, a group of men from Kissimmee bought parcels of land west of Ocoee to build what would become known as Miracle Mile area. This new development included hotels, stores, schools and other businesses that would make Kissimmee an economically prosperous city. By 1922, Ocoee had reached its peak with over 100 residents and three churches serving the community. However, during World War II many families moved away for wartime assignment or to find employment elsewhere because of rationing; this caused a decrease in population to 1,500 by 1950 when war ended officially). When Interstate 4 came into play within Polk County during the late 1960s most residents left for jobs outside of town due to increased travel opportunities available statewide without having to leave their homes; however some people continued living there until they sold property or died leaving behind memories that still influence local culture today (see: I4 Corridor Development Proposal). In 2000 ECHO Inc., an information technology company based out of Tampa chose Ocoee as one of its initial locations for its new business park; this allowed growth along I-4 corridor while preserving much forested interior landscape near downtown which has been preserved as part of walking/ biking trails accessible by car or bus since before Interstate 4 ever came into play ( see: ECHO's Business Park Expansion Plan ). Today nearly all activities taking place within sight or sound of downtown are done electronically due to advances technology but some remnants remain such as independent businesses providing unique services like photography studios & gift shops on Main Street (& now we have Live Nation concerts going on!)

Ocoee is a town in Volusia County, Florida, United States. It is the county seat of Volusia County. The population was 10,711 at the 2010 census. Ocoee is located on State Road 813 about 15 miles (24 km) southeast of Daytona Beach and 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Orlando. The first European to visit what is now Ocoee was Capt. John Smith in 1764 while looking for a route to India. He named the area "Ocala" after his headquarters on Lake Olmeca in upstate New York City where he stayed before continuing his journey southward. On October 12, 1837, Ulysses S. Grant's forces destroyed Fort Moultrie during the Seminole War in what is now known as the Battle of Ocala Bayou which opened an era of economic development for Ocoee and neighboring towns such as Sanford and Winter Haven. Cache Creek ran through downtown Ocala until it was diverted by Works Progress Administration project engineers in 1935 when they built I-4 between Sanford and Winter Haven; Cache Creek then flowed into Kissimmee River near present-day Disney World Resort). In 1937, Drury Lane Theater opened east of Main Street with 200 seats and became one of America's first movie theaters open to the public with sound and exhibition prior to Hollywood's arrival two years later. In 1945 – just after World War II ended – Volusia County bought 1/2 acre (0·3 hectare) from developer George Prentice for $1 million dollars to be used as a parkland surroundingVolusia High School; that land would become Samford Park today adjacent to Highway 192 just south of Interstate 488 exit 11A off State Road 813 northbound). In 1950, Volusia County Extension Agent Donnie Willcox designed plans for an airport within minutes' walk or drive of downtown Ocala which would serve both private citizens and commercial airlines serving Daytona Beach; that airport would eventually be renamed "Orlando–Kissimmee International Airport". In 1957 businessman Harry Henson donated 2 acres (0·8 hectares) northeast of Main Street adjacent tocache creek so that local farmers could have their crops grown close by without having them go through Tampa or Tallahassee; that parcel becameLakeland Boulevard today across from Walmart Supercenter on Old US Route 66E just northbound on SR 813 east side), becoming one of only two streets in town being called avenues instead of streets following adoption by Town Council on November 14th 1959 - making it possible for businesses located along those streets name their lots rather than street addresses like "Oneida Drive", etc., preventing future confusion over who had rights to what property lines when parcels were sold off subsequent decades! On April 3rd 1960 Mayor Bill McGee announced plans forOcoee Regional Airport & Shopping Center which would serve both private citizens and commercial airlines serving Daytona Beach with multiple runways capable accommodating all types aircraft including hangars capable accommodating upto 52 jets); that airport ultimately became known asand remains today one OF THE LARGEST AIRPORTS IN EAST TOWN WITH A TOTAL AREA OF 581 SQUARE MILES (!), making itFlorida's second largest metropolitan center after Miami-Dade County
The name Ocoee comes from the Choctaw word "ocho," meaning "a place to swim." The first white person to live in Ocoee was Captain James Cook, who visit the area in 1770. In 1819, General Andrew Jackson and his forces destroyed part of the Creek Nation's capital at Mound City so that they could not rebuild it. The town was founded by Captain John Pritchett in 1824.
