Ocoee, Florida is a small town located in the Tampa Bay Area of Florida. The population was 5,868 at the 2000 census. Ocoee is part of Lake County and has a primary school, post office, and two churches. The first settlers in what is now Ocoee were brothers Amos and John Pritchard who came to the area in 1824. They founded what is now Pritchardtown on the site of present day Ocoee. In 1831, they married Mary Parks and named their community after her mother's birthplace in England- Ormelee (modern Ormond Beach). The family farm passed from one generation to the next until it was sold to Crouse Brothers lumber company in 1889. At that point, the name changed to Ormelee lumber Company when it merged with other companies including Eastern Lumber Co., Floridian Lumber Corporation, Gulf Lumber and Mfg. Co., Northern Paper Manufacturing Company and Atlantic Paper Merchants Corporation. In 1907-1908, James Waring built a small sawmill on Big Cypress Creek about 2 miles west of where modern Ocoee stands today for his brother-in-law John Fenton who ran the mill until his death in 1934. It was only after World War II when more mills were built along Big Cypress Creek that it became an important factor in economic development around hereabouts as many small farmers turned to processing lumber into homespun fabrics or paper products such as T-shirts and towels etc.. In 1957 there were 10 employees working at Waring's mill while additional jobs have been added over time including accountants/bookkeeping; sales clerks; machine operators; truck drivers; inventory control analysts; graphic designers; economists/investigators; environmental scientists/ planners/consultants etc... Today there are still few job openings but much activity taking place right within town limits with numerous events being held throughout year such as agricultural fairs outdoor concerts arts & crafts shows Christmas tree Lighting fetes picnics pool days civic activities dances well known clubs like Rotary Club Knights of Columbus American Legion Auxiliary Chamber Of Commerce YMCA

Ocoee is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 913 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Memorial City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ocoee was founded by General James Eustis on April 27, 1818 as a post office and trading center for his army during the Seminole Wars. The name "Ocoee" comes from an Indian word meaning 'water fall'. The first settlers were French Creoles who arrived in 1819. They named their community La Cité du Lac (City of Lakes). A post office was established in 1824 and it changed its name to Ocoee in 1830, after General James Eustis' Assistant Commandant at Tampa, Florida's Fort Moultrie. In 1840, Captain John Sayers erected a store on what is now Main Street. By 1850, there were two churches and eighty-six residents. In 1859, due to land speculation by Jepson Paper Company owners Andrew Mellon and Samuel Mellon Sr., Ocoee became part of the new Polk County when it was created from parts of Orange County and Osceola County. At that time, society began to change rapidly with newly developed towns popping up all over the state; Ocoee would not be immune to this trend. One reason for this rapid growth could be credited to Colonel John Crain who donated fourteen acres (60 m2) of land east of Main Street for a public square which would house shops and other civic amenities back then just like they do today – something unheard of outside larger cities or even rural areas today! In 1868 local developer Wm Henson purchased 160 acres (70 ha) south of Main Street from Colonel John Crain for $1 million dollars – making him one of the wealthiest men in Florida at that time! This purchase set off much development within what would become known as "The Townships", including streetscape changes around town square which remain unchanged today; New businesses popped up almost overnight while old ones continued doing business as usual despite being several miles away from where they once sat! A second courthouse - later renamed after Judge Augustus Ponder - opened in 1870 on State Road 601 near present day US 1/Andalusia Boulevard; just across US 1/Andalusia Boulevard from Mrsn’s Store & Restaurant – one of only three restaurants open throughout most if not all aspects until about 1960 when fast food took over; also home to early morning prayers services offered by religious organizations such as Jehovah’s Witnesses until 1978 when those services moved out into their own building nearby on Court Avenue near Interstate 495 industrial area outside city limits since then). An important event occurred here on December 6th 1893 when President Grover Cleveland delivered his keynote address before more than twenty thousand citizens at what is now called Municipal Auditorium Complex…this site served as both State House Annex (built 1898), Fine Arts Building (1901-1903), Municipal Courthouse Annex (1920), Third Judicial Circuit Courthouse Annex 1910-1963 (& later used by Hillsborough Community College through 1990s), Satellite TV Arena (1998) & eventually went through several names including: Capitol Complex Pavilion 1998-present [Orlando], Grover Cleveland Presidential Library & Museum 1998-present [Orlando]…the last major event taking place here occurred on November 16th 2009 when Hurricane Isaac struck landfall just offshore from shoreline….Aftermath included extensive damage to many structures within downtown area including buildings belonging to various municipal governmentsadrafters…..This meetingland has been largely abandoned since the late 1800s although some people living there continue farming semi-rural land adjacent to downtown boundaries.. The Ocoee area was first inhabited by the Timucua and other Native American tribes. The area was part of Spanish Florida during the early 1500s. Englishman James Ligonier explored the Floridian Peninsula in 1606, and discovered what is now Ocoee. In 1778, Captain George Rogers Clark's expedition discovered the peninsula, which became part of the United States in 1818. In 1836, a small town called Indian Wells was founded near Ocoee on U.S. 301 to serve as a crossroads for travelers between Tampa and Jacksonville. In 1914, an electric streetcar line ran through Ocoee connecting it with nearby Hillsborough County towns such as Dunedin and St Petersburg. In 1925, Construction began on State Road 910 (now Interstate 4) which would run through the center of town and connect it with neighboring Hillsborough County townships. The road opened in 1928 and has been used by cars, buses, bikes, motorcycles, skateboards and rollerblades ever since!
