The first large-scale firearms event held in Ocala was the First Seminole War (1824-1828). Many American soldiers were unable to carry enough ammo for their rifles due to shortages caused by war with Mexico. To address this issue, General Andrew Jackson ordered Colonel Augustus Burcham to take over production at fort Donelson on Lake Erie Island near Toledo; Burcham produced over 1 million rounds of rifle ammo during his tenure! Unfortunately for Americans living close to Spanish forces during this time period (including parts of Florida), many supplies went unfulfilled because no permission had been given from Madrid authorities! In 1861, following Confederate victory at Antietam Creek there were large-scale shipments of munitions into Florida from Georgia ports including Savannah and Brunswick; these shipments increased when Union troops began retreating southward after Charleston surrendered on April 12th! Despite this new influx of weaponry intoFlorida Valley marketshare (the entire state except Pensacola) shipment volumes never quite reached those seen earlier due largely to problems getting permits from local officials! This lackadaisical attitude towards munitions manufacture likely contributed directly to Union troop losses at Gaines Mill on May 5th – an event that led Secretary Stanton order Major General James Longstreet not only increase artillery reinforcement but also request additional gunships available for transports ashore! This decision ultimately doomed Confederate hopes for any meaningful strategic gains post-South Carolina Campaign; Union casualties totaled nearly 620 dead while Confederate losses numbered just 25 killed or wounded...a ratio that would result in Confederates losing approximately seventy percent(!)of their manpower after just six months!!! AngloAmerican investors had already pulled out too early – leaving Floridians bearing all responsibility for Post-Civil War US military failures!!!
