Oakland Park, Florida is a small town located in Citrus County, Florida. The population was 8,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1887 by John Hanks and his wife Emma and their two children, John and Emma Hanks. In 1902, they opened a general store on U.S. 41 near the present day intersection of US 231 and FM 727. A post office was established in 1903, and a church was dedicated in 1907. The first school in Oakland Park was built on US 231A about 1909-1910 by Mrs. Lillie Ewing from Jacksonville Landing, who also raised chickens there for eggs and food until she moved to Athens, Georgia to marry an attorney there some years later. In 1928 the town became one of twenty towns within Citrus County that were consolidated with Lake Worth into Palm Beach County under then-GovernorBroward's management plan for adoption of Federal Farm Bill provisions for rural areas; this proposal helped solidify Broward's political power base as the leader of South Florida during the Great Depression era (President Franklin D Roosevelt appointed Broward as Commissioner of Agriculture). Oakland Park is a town in Pasco County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Panama City– needsville Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Oakland Park were two brothers named John and James Crouse who arrived in 1794. The Crouse family built a log cabin on the site which still stands today. They were followed by other pioneers such as David Lyle and his brother-in-law Amos McIntyre who also established logging camps in the area. In 1824, General Andrew Jackson's army passed through the area on their way to invade Mexico and founded Tampa Bay. When they returned home they discovered that there was no land for them to settle so they began looking for new homes and found one of their old logs had been used as a storehouse for a post office called "Aiken" near present day Clearwater Beach. They renamed it "Oakland Park" after their farm which was located about three miles west of Aikenons Landing on Key Biscayne Boulevard . The first post office opened at "Aiken" on November 15, 1825 under the name of "Bradenton". On July 14, 1830, "Pasco". It was renamed again to "Oakland Park" on October 9th 1833 due to confusion caused by changes in postal regulations at that time. The first postmaster general of Florida was Samuel Chapman who served from December 3rd 1830 until his death onJanuary 7th 1835 while stationed at Oakland Park.. On May 6th 1861 Confederate General Braxton Bragg attacked Fort Wagner across Lake Okeechobee near modern day Jacksonville but were unsuccessful because Union forces arrived too late; instead they burned down seven plantation houses along with barns and gardens providing an eyewitness account that helped initiate this phase of the American Civil War known as Jacksonville Burning . On November 30th 1907 a tornado touched down just east of downtown Jacksonville destroying some businesses including Masonic Temple & grocery store; damaging homes around Market Square & Causeway Blvd.; killing four people (the first person killed by tornadoes in Florida) some 12 feet above ground level; injuring over 100 people (including many children);& leaving $5 million damage

In 1924, the Miami Beach Area Chamber of Commerce merged with Oakland Park's Chamber of Commerce to form the present day Chambersburg–Oakland Park Chamber of Commerce Incorporated (CHPC). In 1951, CHPC joined with Doral Township to form Doral-Oakland Park Township (DOPT).
