Oakland Park, Florida is located in St. Lucie County, Florida and is a census-designated place. The population was 1,972 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The scopes in Oakland Park were built between 1907 and 1915 by Dr.George Crocker of Rochester, New York. The first telescope to be erected here was called the Crocker Telescope and it was built on a hill overlooking downtown Oakland Park. After Dr. George Crocker's death in 1915, his son-in-law James Hutton took over ownership of the telescope and continued to operate it until 1951 when it was sold to Edwin Broughton who used it for scientific research until it was sold again in 1978 to Drs Thurston and Joyce Kline who operated it from 1978 until 1984 when it passed into private hands again before being donated to the University of South Florida in 1985 where it currently resides as part of their astronomy department's collection known as "The Observatory". I recently visited The Observatory which is housed inside an old bank building on USF campus where I met some of the people who have been associated with operating or donating telescopes to South Florida over the years such as Edwin Broughton (1892-1978), Joyce Kline (1924-1984), Thurston &Joyce Kline (1985-2008) etc... They all told me about how they acquired their particular telescope or scopes and what they do with them once they're no longer needed or useful. It seems that there are quite a few different types of telescopes that have been donated to South Florida over time including: optical instruments such as microscopes, telescopes, binoculars etc., photographic equipment such as cameras/lenses/mirror boxes etc., weather balloons etc., astronomical equipment such as reflectors, sextants etc... It would be interesting to study this more closely because there must be a lot of interesting history behind these scopes!

In 1926, the town voted to remove all References to God from their public school curriculums and renamed themselves "The University of the Universe". In 1975, the university relocated to Oakland Park and continues today as The University of the Universe Research Institute.
Oakland Park is a town in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,922 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1892 by landowner John L. Payne and his wife Sarah Payne as a small community on Oak Island, just east of Fort Lauderdale. In 1924, it reorganized as a town under the name of Oakland Park after its location on an isolated island near Jacksonville. In 1954, when Broward County became an unincorporated area within Miami-Dade County, Oakland Park merged with neighboring Sunrise to form Sunrise Beach Village. When Miami-Dade County was abolished in 2013 and merged into Palm Beach County, Sunrise Beach Village reverted back to Oakland Park's original name - but with no mayor or city hall present; all residents are listed on one street address which includes their ZIP code for tax purposes only. The opening of Dania Beach Boulevard in 1966 changed everything for Oakland Park - it became one of the first towns in Florida to have its own road system complete with interchanges and arterial streets that connected every other town within its boundaries. In recent years, much development has taken place in downtown including new restaurants and hotels as well as new homes for retirees and professionals who continue to call Oakland Park home today despite being located inside the greater Miami metropolitan area now referred to as South Florida

The post office closed in 1951 and the first school opened in 1903. The first church was built in 1895 and there were only two businesses in Oakland Park before World War II. After the war, many new residents moved into the town and it continued to grow until it had a population of over 20,000 by 1962. During this time, there were several churches and schools as well as a few factories. After the 2000 census counted only 6 people living in Oakland Park, it ceased to exist as an incorporated municipality within Bay County but remains part of nearby Fort Myers with a current population of around 15,000 people.
Oakland Park, Florida was a community in Hillsborough County, Florida. The community was located on the north side of Oakland Park Lake and consisted of a few homes and some businesses. It disbanded in the early 2000s as part of the consolidation of communities in Hillsborough County.
