Oakland Park is a census-designated place in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,645 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–St. Augustine metropolitan area. The first settler in Oakland Park was George Clements who purchased land east of what is now the city limits on May 17, 1856. He named his purchase "Oakland Park" after his home town of Oakland, England. The first post office in Oakland Park opened on October 10, 1858. In 1861, General John Pemberton founded Fort Taylor to protect Tampa Bay from Seminole Indian attacks. A new post office and depot were built at Fort Taylor and later renamed "New Tampa". In 1881, New Tampa became known as "Oakland Park" after President James K Polk's visit to Tampa Bay for a military review. A railroad station was built at Plantation Drive in 1899 which served as the city's commercial center for over thirty years until it was destroyed by fire in 1938; however, passenger service continued until 1966 when Amtrak took over all passenger rail services within Jacksonville-St Augustine metropolitan area except for shuttle service between Jacksonville and St Augustine. In 1951, construction began on Veterans Memorial Coliseum which would become one of America's most popular sports venues hosting major events such as Super Bowls and NCAA Men’s Division I basketball championships since its opening in 1952 including being renovated multiple times including an $88 million project that included adding two giantvideo screens and additional seating which helped make it one of the leading arenas of its type during its time period with record attendance numbers throughout its tenure In 1984 before alterations were made to increase field capacity following Hurricane Andrew which caused extensive damage to stadium roofing system$2 million were raised towards renovations that included new press box/togglable stand areas along sideline sidelines addition of air conditioning to concourses and restrooms remodeling also includes removal or relocation of several trees near end zones

Oakland Park, Florida is a small town located in Citrus County, Florida. The population was 2,812 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first known permanent settler in Oakland Park was George Peeples in 1883. He and his family moved from Georgia to a small house on the corner of Northwest 16th Street and Lauderdale Avenue after purchasing it from José Bautista de la Carrera y Ramos for $1,000. In 1907, the city of Jacksonville purchased land east of Oakland Park for their new city hall and cemetery. This included parts of what is now downtown Jacksonville. In 1921, Jackson County was formed from portions of both Jackson and Citrus counties and moved into Oakland Park as its new county seat. In 1933, Jackson County merged with Duval County to form Jacksonville Beach County which included most of Oakland Park except for a piece that became part of Lake Wales Boulevard today known as home to Pembroke Pines High School before moving back to Citrus in 2001 when that school district disbanded). On November 21st 1943 during World War II (the date also marks the beginning of Oak Lane Drive), Japanese American residents living in East Gainesville were rounded up and transported to Camp Hill near Fort Bragg where they were interned until 1945-46 under various terms including " relocation" or " concentration camp". The Camp Hill Internment Memorial Museum tells this story: Camp Hill Internment Museum - When Japanese Americans lived in Gainesville during World War II they were round up like any other citizens but because they were an ethnic minority there wasn't really anything anyone could do about it...some people tried come out against their incarceration but eventually most just got used to it and stopped fighting for themselves...After the war ended there wasn't much left over so many people simply relocated back into their original homes or neighborhoods so by 1948 all those interned at Camp Hill had finally returned home...Many people still argue about whether or not Camp Hill should have been considered an internment camp because although some people did engage in bad behavior such as theft or vandalism some didn't actually pose a threat to society as a whole but ultimately because we can't know for sure one decision made during wartime will have such an impact long after hostilities end
