The first Red Dot Sight on this property was a .22 caliber Rifle scope that was mounted on a wooden tripod with an old rifle stock that had been donated by Captain Elisha Goodrich of Ft Myers Beach. The second Red Dot Sight in Oakland Park was a .4 S&W Pistol Scope which was installed in 1928 on the front porch of City Hall by Mayor John Aherns. In 1929, a .50 caliber Rifle Scope with an original trigger group and hammer provided for use at City Hall when it became the Municipal Courthouse located across from Schoolhouse Lane where it remained until 1977 when it too moved to its present location next to Hillsborough High School after being used as part of school field artillery training ranges during World War II. In 1951, city manager Ray Kapp donated land adjacent to Hillsborough High School which included what is now known asJoe’s Place Shopping Center and Joe’s Garage which served as the primary armory for the City of Oakland Park until 1967 when it closed due to budget cuts led by Mayor Raymond Kelly who at that time resided in Miami Beach

Oakland Park is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It lies on U.S. Route 1 south of Jacksonville and east of St Petersburg. The first permanent settler in Oakland Park was John Witherspoon, who arrived there in 1835 with his family from Massachusetts. He named it for a park he had seen near Boston where he used to play baseball and horseback riding. In 1848, Drury Coleman bought land east of what is now downtown Oakland Park from the Creek Nation and established a cotton plantation there called Coleman's Plantation which also produced sugarcane and other crops. In 1863, Colman sold his plantation to JF Steele who renamed it Steele's Plantation after himself and added an alligator pond to the property which still exists today as Steele's Gator Pond State Recreation Area. In 1892, A C Nicholson purchased part of Steele's Plantation which became known as Nicholson-Steele Manor (later renamed Arlington Gardens). That year Nicholson built an estate that extended along Tampa Bay called Arlington House while continuing to produce crops including sugar cane and corn; however he died before doing so could sell it or build a mansion on the property as planned. The estate reverted back to Nicholson-Steele Manor until 1923 when it was merged into Arlington Gardens again becoming home to many famous people such as Bobby Vinton and Eleanor Roosevelt who both lived there during their careers or during their periods in office including Franklin D Roosevelt’s first term when he occupied the White House at this location In 1933, due largely to Hurricane Hazel damage some of Nicholson-Steele Manor becamepublicly owned by Miami Beach City Commission under direction of Mayor Manuel Largo) It has been continuouslyowned by Miami Beach City Commission since 1933 with occasional changes hands through public/private transactions ever since Since 2003 (under Mayor Carlos Gimenez), much effort has been made by city officials led by Economic Development Director Daniele Piancato(EAD)and Manager for Housing Courtney Starke(CSH)to redevelop portions of Nicholson-Steele Manor into mixed use housing units (MUIAs) that can accommodate diverse tenant groups including low income residents; families with young children; seniors; business owners.; etc., while preserving its historical character . This effort includes negotiating leases with various tenants groupings interested in occupying vacant spaces within MUIAs through cooperative agreements ); developing plans for street renamings ; arranging for financing ; creating pathways for neighborhood watch programs ; beautifying streetscape ; etc., making Oakland Park one step closer towards becoming a vibrant community committed to promoting opportunity for everyone living there
