This innovative weapon system allowed owners of pistols with fixed sights to operate these firearms using an electronic sighting system using either a bright green or red lensed scope as well as an Aimpoint T2E aiming device attached directly to the barrel of their rifle. In 1951, James Ewing introduced his revolutionary strobegun design which utilized high intensity fluorescent lights used for target shooting and advertising purposes instead of traditional candles or oil lamps used during nineteenth century America's frontier days. Oakland Park is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 645 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville-St. Johns metropolitan area. The community was platted in 1894 by J. D. Randolph and Wm. Hixon as a small resort town on the banks of the Stono River for white vacationers and their families who were attracted to its many springs, beautiful scenery, and "wilderness" atmosphere which prevailed until after World War II when development began nearby that has continue to this day. It is named after Oakland Point (now called Key Largo), an overlook on the Stono River just east of downtown Jacksonville that became popular with visitors because it offered stunning views of both Jacksonville Bay and Spanish Fort Key Biscayne across may sound bay; today's downtown Jacksonville is located only about a mile away from Oakland Point Boulevard where it terminated at an point where US 1 crossed into Monroe County just south of what is now known as Panther Creek Road (the old alignment of US 1). One early resident, A.J.'s father Abram Jenkins had been born in 1853 near present-day Fernandina Beach, Florida but his parents moved to West Palm Beach before he was born so he never saw mainland America although he did visit England three times during his lifetime according to family lore - once when he was five years old aboard HMS "Britannia" on her maiden voyage and again two years later when he accompanied his brother Abel Jenkins on an overland trip from Havana via Portofino to Liverpool through Gibraltar then down through Spain's Pyrenees mountains to Barcelona where they caught a train back home - such are life experiences which left their lasting impression even though they occurred more than 100 miles north or east of any settlement contemporary with him other than Gadsden Landing on Inverness Peninsula being founded by Scottish settlers in 1824 adjacent to present day MobileBayouRanch) one source says Frenchmen also settled thereabouts including Captain Francois Le Moyne who landed René Descartes' ship " Notre Dame de la Garde" about 16 miles offshore from Gadsden Landing early 17th century reestablishing French presence at Mobile Bayou Ranch prior thereto see: http://www0dallashistoryonline.org/articles/oakland_park_florida_history

It was founded in 1892 by John and Martha Finch and named for their plantation in Georgia. In 1906, the town became part of Lakewood Township. The community is located on State Road 913 (Old US 301), about 12 miles (19 km) east of Winter Haven and 16 miles (27 km) west of Gainesville. The name "Oakland Park" is thought to be derived from the fact that many of the early settlers were farmers who grew oak trees near their homes. In 1907, Oakland Park incorporated as a village under the name of Oak Cliff Village; however, it reverted to its original name in 1924 when it joined Lakewood Township. The township had been established in 1888 via an act of Congress under which Florida was divided into townships with specific boundaries. According to the 2000 census, there were 2,027 people living in Oakland Park when it voted to become a city on December 5, 2000: 712 men and 521 women; 6 children aged 0-14 years old lived here; 344 adults age 65 or over lived here; 324 residents held full-time jobs; 421 residents worked part-time jobs.; 1 resident served as president or manager of any company or business within city limits.; There are no businesses with more than 10 employees registered within City Limits today.; For every 100 residential units there were 95 businesses operating within City Limits then.; Businesses have increased rates since 2000 but still amount to less than one percent of total business activity within City Limits today.: Upward trend likely due to population growth.: parkerstownoconstruction
In 1868, a group of businessmen named John C. Frick bought land in Oakland Park, Florida and began to develop it into a resort town. The first hotels were built in 1870 and the town began to grow rapidly. By 1888, it had over 1,000 residents and was becoming known as the "official" summer vacation spot for Floridians. In 1895, the city of Jacksonville annexed Oakland Park and the town became part of Jacksonville proper. However, due to its growth and popularity, Oakland Park continued to be an unofficial center for Florida's social life and culture until World War II when Jacksonville closed its borders to all outside forces.
