In 1984-85, AOC/Bausch & Lomb merged with Sperry Rand Corporation (SRC) and continued operations as S&P/Bausch & Lomb.
Oakland Park is a town in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white person to set foot in Oakland Park was John Sutter on December 12, 1834. He and his family brought over five cows and six pigs from Rancho San Francisco de Tejas near Presidio Hill in California. They named their new land "Sutter's Fort" after him and founded a mission station there called the Mission San Francisco de Tejas which still stands today on US-441 north of town. In 1859 two brothers by the name of Laughlin came to Citrus County with their families and began farming here. They built what would become known as Laughlin's Store on Church Street in 1870. In 1886 they donated some land to the Methodist Episcopal Church for use as a Holy Ghost Cemetery which still stands today within walking distance of Main Street in downtown Oakland Park. In 1915 Mrs. Florence Mannheimer (née Zimmer) married Captain Harry Winton who had come down from Tampa with the rest of the American Expeditionary Force during World War I and had been living in St Petersburg, Florida since then where he had worked for Gulf Oil Company as an oil pipeline engineer assigned to build an open-cut coal mine deep inside Cuba’s Guantanamo Peninsula before Ulysses S Grant ordered its dismantling under orders from General officers Commanding all Allied Forces at Tampa Bay following reports that mining operations were being conducted without formal permits or safety regulations preparatory to war). When Captains Winton and Mannheimer found out that they were about to marry outside their military service zone they applied for marriage license at Pinellas County Courthouse but were refused because Jacksonville was serving as their officiating state while Tampa was conducting its own ceremonies; this however did not stop Captain Harry Winton from being married by Lieutenant Colonel Edward Jovanovich (later Judge Advocate General of Army), Commander First Marine Division at Camp McKinley east of Tampa on November 25, 1918 (the same day President Woodrow Wilson delivered his speech giving approval for World War I). The first permanent European settler in Oakland Park was James Moultrie who arrived in 1848. He built a cabin on what is now First Street and Indian Creek Boulevard. Moultrie later sold his land to Hernando Cortés for $1,000. In 1851, John Pemberton founded Taylor's Mill on Second Street south of Center Avenue and operated it until 1862 when he moved it to Pensacola, Alabama due to the Panic of 1857. In 1865, Orange Judd established the Judd sugar plantation in what is now Oakland Park with 3 acres (1 ha). The plantation prospered until 1888 when it was purchased by Jerald Craynor for $10 million dollars which made him one of the richest men in America. The Craynor family continued to operate the plantation until 1966 when it was sold to Sears Roebuck & Co.. In 1926, Mayor Joseph Gannon Oral History Project discovered that citrus culture had been located here by Spanish settlers in 1565 and 1615 as early as 1763 on two small islands near present day downtown Miami Beach known as Isla Vaca de las Palmas or "Island of the Horses". For more than two centuries oranges were grown here providing orange juice for export from South Florida but also used for cooking and drugging purposes such as brandy and syrup throughout much of North America including this part of Florida where sugarcane was still being cultivated into the 1800s.
