Neyland State Fairgrounds which hosts various agricultural events each year. There is also an annual golf tournament hosted at Four Seasons Resort Golf Course which has been held since 1957. Additionally, oak trees can be found throughout downtown where they have been used for shade or as part of public art pieces over the years. In recent years, there have been efforts made to revive some aspects of this community such as creating a park within walking distance to keep children active and developing a special interest section within the library for older residents with additional needs or interests outside typical library programming. Overall, these efforts seem to be making progress but more work needs to be done in order for Oakland Park to continue experiencing significant growth and success over time
Oakland Park, Florida was settled in the 1840s by Seminole Indians. The area became part of the United States in 1845 and was named for General James P. Oakland, who had been a delegate to the U.S. Congress during the Mexican-American War. In 1853, Oakland Park was selected as the location for what is now Lake Anna State Park.
