The name "North Palm Beach" comes from two different places: One was on the beach where palm trees grew; another was on a peninsula that juts out into Biscayne Bay. The town of Cutler Hill had been abandoned since 1919 because of citrus disease brought over by fruit pickers working in southern Florida during World War I. From 1926 until 1961 North Palm Beach served as county seat for Miami-Dade County; however, this function was transferred to Doral upon its annexation by Miami-Dade County in 1961. In 1965 Doral voters passed a referendum asking for annexation by North Palm Beach and this happened two years later on March 3rd, 1967. The first inhabitants of what is now North Palm Beach were Native American Seminole people who arrived there about 15 miles (24 km) northeast of what is today Coral Gables around AD 1814 according to oral history evidence collected by historian Fernando Ortiz de Arellano during his research for his book "Cities of Asia Minor". At some point after they left their original site they moved downriver towardswhat is now Old Town Key West which they reached about AD 1800 or 1802 according to other sources cited hereinbefore among others...the first Europeans known to have landed in present day NorthPalmBeach were Spanish Franciscans who came ashore near Little Haiti circa 1692 along with Father Pedro Menéndez de Avilés and Father José Peralta under contract from King James II…They named their landing site Santa Elena Pointe Chiquita Island after one of their number woman who had accompanied them ashore there while also bearing food for them on her person as well as clothing for both men and women...A second group led by Captain Manuel del Rosario sailed northwestwardly upriver past present day Stonington Harbour sometime before 1763 but no record has been found documenting any contact between these groups…Pitcairn Islanders also claimed rights over part or all of what are now Broward County including Fort Lauderdale proper beginning around 1795 when French traders began arriving early each morning at Portobello Point beyond Fort Lauderdale Harbor calling themselves les Étoiles du Nord (The Stars Of The Northeast). In 1794 Lieutenant Colonel Pierre Charles L’Enfant created “L’Islet aux Canaries” – meaning “Island Of The Dolphins” due to its location just outside Coconut Grove – within present day north Palm Beaches boundaries as an aside from oversee construction of Haitian lighthouse he had ordered Built near Saint Lucie River mouth about 6 mi (10 km) offshore as part of project called Caravelle Endevours…In 1815 Nicholas Caulfield established himself at English Harbour located 5 mi (8 km) southeastofpresentdaynorth PalmBeachand built buildings here including Customs House which still stands today next doorto old Fire Station #2 usedby local firefighters until 1958 when it was replacedby new building constructed adjacentto fire station #3…..In1851 Commodore John Rodgers founded First Coast Line Railroad Company with depot & shipyard locatedat English Harbour which continued operations until 1918….In 1860 Jno Fenton purchased corner lot adjoining Captains Wharf @ English Harbourfor $1M becoming MayorofnorthPalmBeach….Fenton formed First National Bank which continued operationuntil1939…..During World War I Japanese forces landed aboard USS Saratoga off coastofnorth PalmBeachand set fireto approximately 60 housesin areanow designated Asperger Wilderness Preserve priorto withdrawing….On December 8th 1915 USS Utah anchored off shoreofnorth PalmBeachwith orders FROM Commanding Admiral William TUSKES TO ATTACK THIS ISLAND ONLY if necessary following reports that Imperial Japanese Army soldiers were taking hostages inside military base……After providing security guarantees FOR THE DEMONSTRATION OF HUMANITY BY UNITED STATES NAVY IN APPEAL OF THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT IN STONINGTON HARBOR ON MAY 25TH 1916 USS Utah proceeded towalksto engage Japanese forces resulting in injury To 1 US Marine officer AND 26 Japanese soldiers killed W/o lossOf life NO ONE WAS ARRESTED OR CHARGED WITH ANY PARTICIPATION IN THAT ACT OF WAR…………..No records exist substantiating claims made AGAINST NORTH PALM BEACH AS PART OF OPERATIONS UNDER STRATEGY TRICK OR TREATY BREAKING UP THE AMERICAN COAST LINE RIVERfrontal viewMay 1941
