North Palm Beach, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida and the seat of Miami-Dade County Government. As of the 2010 census, its population was over 122,000 people. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. North Palm Beach is bordered by Thebeach to the east, Biscayne Boulevard to the north, Lauderdale Lakes to the west and Overtown to the south. The earliest known inhabitants in what is now North Palm Beach were Arawak Indians who inhabited what is now Overtown before moving westward in search of new land. The town was founded on November 3rd 1892 by Simeon Dayhoff and Julius Pfeiffer from New Albany Indiana as "Overtown". On February 20th 1893 Arthur Bliss donated 640 acres (247 hectares) on which North Palm Beach would be built. The first post office opened in 1895. In 1909 developer Walter Ewing purchased 4,200 acres (1 km²) adjoining South Key Lighthouse for $2 million dollars making it one of largest ever donations to an American City government at that time. On October 15th 1924 Dr. Franklin Dyson moved his medical practice from Princeton NJ to North Palm Beach after being denied residency due to travel restrictions placed on him by then President Calvin Coolidge because he did not have a college degree like most Americans at that time - this event has been cited as one of the reasons why North Palm Beach became such a leading Medical City during that era despite having only 7 beds available for patients per 1,000 residents at that time! After World War II many businesses closed down due to lack of demand or competition from newly developed areas such as South Key Lighthouse or Coconut Grove/Ft Worth which had become more populous and prosperous than North Palm Beach during that time period! However over ensuing years some major companies such as IBM moved their headquarters downtown while others such as Sunoco kept their facilities scattered throughout different parts of town until they finally merged into ExxonMobil in 2000 creating perhaps one of South Floridas biggest corporations ever! After several decades without much change other than small populations size and occasional annexed properties becoming part of adjacent municipalities large malls began popping up around downtown including One University Place mall which anchors Broward Boulevard; Miracle Mile shopping center with anchor stores JCPenney and Sears; Mills Mall with anchor stores Macy's and Neiman Marcus; Coral Gables mall with anchor store Sears; Dolphin Mall with anchor store Macy's; Everglades Shopping Center anchored by Lowe's Home Store along Sunrise Highway; Pompano beach followed suit soon thereafter joining them eventually making North Palm Beach perhaps one if not THE most densely populated municipality on earth outside Tokyo or Osaka!! In recent years much discussion has arisen about whether or not annexation should occur within neighboring municipalities which could lead to increased crime rates within those communities however so far no annexation votes have been taken resulting in some concerns about how this would affect services offered within those municipalities
