North Palm Beach is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 36,525 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. North Palm Beach is bordered by Dania to the north and west, Boca Raton to the east and south, and Coconut Creek to the southeast. The area now comprising North Palm Beach was first populated by meeting tents erected along what is now Federal Highway 1 in 1845 by American soldiers on their march from Fort Wagner across Lee County towards Key West. A post office called "Northeast" was established in 1865; it closed in 1868 after a fire destroyed most of its supplies. In 1903, part of what would become North Palm Beach was annexed by neighboring Boca Raton as part of a land deal that also included much of Broward County. In 1925, Boca Raton incorporated as a city; North Palm Beach followed suit two years later. At first known simply as "Boca Raton," the name change came about because northerners wanted more local control over their affairs after witnessing rapid growth and development taking place in downtown Boca Raton during that time period. As South Florida grew increasingly diverse with waves of arrivals from Latin America during the late 19th century and early 20th century (known locally as "The Wave"), so too did North Palm Beach's demographics: black residents began moving into this area starting around 1915 while white residents continued to settle here until well into the 1940s. During World War II, many workers who were needed on naval bases near Jacksonville moved into North Palm Boulevard/Federal Highway 1 housing developments such as those near Government Center Mall which became known collectively as Allied Base Camp or ABC Homes when they were built beginning in 1944-1945 for servicemen stationed at nearby Naval Air Station Everglades National Park where later airfields would be located including Homestead AFB (now Fort Myers) within striking distance of both Joint Basepalm beach (JBPE) – then serving as an RAF airfield used primarily for bomber operations – and NAS Hollywood (now Hollywood Hills). These developments are now known collectively as "The Military Communities." On October 15, 2002, Hurricane Wilma made landfall on mainland Florida causing extensive damage throughout much of Southwest Florida including parts of Coral Gables and Pompano Beaches communities adjacent to NORTH PALM BEACH proper; however NOHVEMA largely spared NORTH PALM BEACH with maximum winds speeds only reaching 25 mph inland which caused no destruction or injuries reported beyond some downed power lines and minor flooding but caused significant disruptions due to high water levels resulting from storm surge created byWilma’s landfalling wave crashing ashoreidea beaches along federal highways I-95 & US 41A . The area now known as North Palm Beach was first settled by European Americans in the early 1800s. In 1835, the area became part of Indian Territory under U.S. jurisdiction after the treaty of Fort Laramie that ended the Seminole Wars. The town of Jupiter was founded in 1837, and North Palm Beach was organized as a village in 1840. On December 5, 1845, North Palm Beach became a town when it received its charter from the Florida Legislature. The population of North Palm Beach increased rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to waves of immigrants arriving in search of work and opportunity in what was then a mainly agricultural region. By 1915, there were over 10,000 people living in North Palm Beach. After World War I ended, many refugees from Europe arrived in North Palm Beach looking for new opportunities after experiencing difficult times back home. Many Irish-American families established themselves inNorthPalmBeach during this time frame. During World War II, North Palm Beach played an important role as an airfields used by both Allied and Axis forces during the war effort. The town also experienced significant growth after World War II with development taking place around Lake Worth Boulevard and Westchester Drive nightclubs becoming popular tourist destinations for locals and tourists alike throughout the 1960s and 1970s
