North Palm Beach, Florida is located on the eastern coast of Miami-Dade County. The town was originally named "Northeast Miami" by the British in 1821 for its location at the northeast corner of Miami and North Bay Streets. It became a part of Miami in 1867 when it was annexed from Dade County. The town name has been changed several times since then, most notably in 1962 to "North Palm Beach". The Town of North Palm Beach was established on December 1, 1914 with a population of seventy-five residents. On January 1, 1915, the first school opened in the town. In 1917, two churches were built: First Baptist Church and Methodist Episcopal Church. The first post office opened in North Palm Beach on October 16, 1916. In 1924 an amusement park called Topaz Park was constructed near what is now Interstate 95 east of town. It remained open until it burned down on July 7, 1925; however, parts of the park still remain extant today as Topaz Park State Park. On January 5th, 1927 North Palm Beach voted to annex neighboring unincorporated communities of Singer Island and Clearwater into their community for $5 per capita. This annexation led to a rapid growth in population as people from these communities moved into North Palm Beach to join their new friends and neighbors who had also chosen to annex into the growing community. By 1929 there were over one hundred residents living in North Palm Beach proper alone! Attractions that began appearing soon after annexation included shopping malls (Lakeside Mall and Mills Point Mall), service clubs (The Country Club), daycare facilities (Angie’s Daycare Center), restaurants (Crestview Palace Café & Racquetball Courts), auto dealerships (Milton Motorsports). During this time period much development took place within downtown boundaries including construction of two high schools:broward High School whichopened doors on September 25th 1959 and Indian River Junior College whichopened doors on November 10th 1957; both schools are now partof Broward High School's Campus division along with numerous other educational institutions such as Miamis University where DrPaul Anzalone currently teaches business administration; Kendall Community College whichopened doors on September 12th 1977; Pompano Marine Stadium whichopened doors on July 17th 1984 adjacent to Pompano beach resort Casino; Stonington Hospital whereDr James Andrews served as Medical Director during Hurricanes Andrew & Irma;and many more! Downtown businesses stretched from Third Street south along Biscayne Boulevard all the way west along State Road A1A creating an enclave known locally as Southtown! This period marked significant progress for North Palm Beach due both economically and culturally speaking with infrastructure being developed that helped supporttoday’s economy while preserving some traditions dating back centuries like fireplaces being used inside homes!!
