In 1928, the North Miami Gun Club was organized. The club met at a home on Northwest First Street and started to purchase firearms. In 1933, the first annual meeting of the club was held at Friendship Hall in Miami. The North Miami Gun Club acquired its current location on Northwest First Street in 1944. On November 5th, 1945, the club held its second annual meeting and purchased rifles from W. Hargrave & Sons of Ft Worth, Texas. At that time, North Miami remained one of only two gun clubs in Florida which catered exclusively to law enforcement officers and their families. On October 20th, 1948, the North Miami Gun Club changed its name to TheMiami Beach Pistol Club Incorporated with a new by-laws and constitution. That same year membership totaled sixty-six members including twenty-four police officers from South Beach Police Department who were charter members for that organization until 1959 when they became independent police departments under state rule . In 1951 the club purchased pistols from Milt Hixon Brothers at 801 Collins Avenue in Homestead FL . That year pistol sales increased as part of an effort to improve safety among law enforcement personnel while also promoting target shooting events throughout south Florida . In 1957 pistol sales increased again as part of a larger program designed to promote responsible ownership of handguns by civilians through NRA education programming conducted throughout south Florida . Finally , on May 3rd 1970 Pistol Sales Committee unanimously voted to change our name back to TheMiami Beach Pistol Club Incorporating our original bylaws with changes made thereto effective June 1st 1970
