With this purchase came control over all of what is now North Miami Beach - an area that had been sparsely populated since before European contact. In 1925 developer Harry Weisbard developed "Weisman's Landing", one of South Florida's first planned communities on man-made shorelines created through dredging and engineering feats which greatly improved access to fresh water resources for residents within easy walking distance of several saltwater fishing areas as well as commercial fishing fleets operations ashore offshore near Everglades National Park and Port Everglades on Clearwater Bayou subjecting these waters off Southwest Florida to daily recreational catch limits without jeopardy to marine life or submerged features important both nationally and locally

The area now known as North Miami was first populated by the Micmac tribe in the early 1600s. The area then became part of Spanish Florida during the 16th century. In 1821, North Miami was given to United States by Spain for $3,000 and became part of Miami county. In 1903, Miami county merged with Dade County to form unifiedMiami-Dade County. On July 1, 2013, North Miami residents voted in a referendum to annex their city into Dade County.
