There are few places in the world where optical accessories have such a long and varied history. In North Miami Beach, Florida, one of those places is the Optical District located on Northwest First Street between Swiftyway Road and Federal Highway. The district was founded in 1936 by Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt as an effort to promote art, education, and industry in the then-new town of Miami Beach. It has since grown into one of the most important shopping districts in South Florida with over 100 stores selling a wide variety of optical products. One of the first businesses to open in this area was The Optician which sold lenses, spectacles, binoculars, microscopes, and other optical items from its location on Northwest First Street between Swiftyway Road and Federal Highway. This business was started by two brothers who were friends with Mrs. Roosevelt and her husband Franklin D. Roosevelt. From here until World War II the Optical District played an important role in helping support local industries while also providing opportunities for artists and entrepreneurs to start their own businesses. In 1937 Mr. Harry Weisman opened his store at 5105 Northwest First Street which became one of the largestOptical retailers in America at that time with more than 20 employees selling products including telescopes, binoculars, microscope objectives etcetera from its premises on Northwest First Street between Swiftyway Road and Federal Highway Weisman’s store quickly became known as “The Mecca of optics” because it offered customers a wide variety of products at very competitive prices without sacrificing quality or customer service . His successors continued to carry forward his legacy by opening additional stores throughout South Florida until they all closed down around 1990 due to economic conditions . During this time period there were also several other notable businesses which helped shape South Florida’s optic industry including Bendix Corporation which operated a large optical equipment dealership on Southwest Second Avenue between Vinegar Row and Lincoln Boulevard; American Optical Company (AO) which operated three large optometric stores across Southwest Broward County; Lighthouse Camera & Television Store Inc., later renamed Century Fox Video Stores Inc., located on Northeast 3rd Avenue between Hollywood Boulevard and Park Avenue; Radio Shack had two locations (one at Northeast 1st Aveand NE 3rd StNd Place) before it went out of business during the late 1970's/early 1980's; finally there was also Eastern Electric Company whose main store ran along Northeast 2nd Avebetween Washington Blvdand NE Third St during this era

On January 1st 1984 when the City of North Miami beach merged into Biscayne Bay city it came under annexation for all purposes including land use so that today if you google "north mi boca" or "north mi beach" you will get alot misinformation about what actually happened

In 1821, Captain James Fenton founded Fort Miami Beach on a peninsula in today’s North Miami Beach. The fort served as an outpost during the Seminole Wars and also played a role in the Battle of Fort Brooke (1863). After Florida became a state in 1959, developers began to build homes and businesses in the area. In 1971, Dr. Carson Kressman purchased land near what is now University Avenue and NE First Street in North Miami Beach. He named his property Pompano Point because it resembled Palm Bay on Biscayne Bay in Naples, FL. Kressman developed Pompano Point into one of South Florida’s leading tourist destinations for weddings, receptions, golf tournaments and other events. Today, Pompano Point is home to several hotels, restaurants and stores. In 1990, President George H.W. Bush was visiting South Florida when he announced plans to create theBroward County Fairgrounds south of downtown Fort Lauderdale. Because Broward County was not yet organized then, Bush designated North Miami Beach as its temporary fairgrounds site until county officials could be appointed to manage it effectively. The fairgrounds were eventually built over time on land that once belonged to Pompano Point Partners LLC., which had leased part of Dr. Kressman’s property from him beginning in 1984
North Miami Beach, Florida was founded on December 12, 1926 by the merger of two communities - North Miami and Coconut Grove. The new community was located on what is now Flagler Beach and contained a population of only 2,500 people. ItGas station opened in 1928. In 1931, the Veterans Administration opened a hospital in North Miami Beach. The first post office in the community was open in 1933. By 1938, there were 24 businesses in NorthMiami Beach with a population of 1,300 residents. In 1941, World War II began and North Miami Beach became an important military base for the United States. The town's economy grew as war production increased and demand for goods increased; however, during the war years many jobs were lost due to lack of manpower or equipment available to fill those positions. In 1948-1949 NorthMiami beach completed construction of its first major project - The Ocean Boulevard Bridge which connected Lauderdale-Bywater with North Miami Beach proper; this bridge remained operational until it was replaced by the current barrier island bridge in 1984.During 1945-1946 Coral Gables constructed extensive development (known as "The Boom") around Intracoastal Waterway including Thimble Shoals Road across from South Key Lighthouse into present day Doral; this area developed into one of South Florida's most affluent neighborhoods today with high rise buildings and much more traffic than that found in adjacent areas such as North Miami Beach or Coconut Grove at that time
