The Navy constructed USS Pembroke (LST-548) at one of these yards and also built HMS Raleigh (RN-811). The USS Enterprise (CV-6) was also built here at one point. Many other warships were also manufactured here during World War II including the USS Constitution (CV-24), USS Porter (CV-19), and USS Lexington (CV-15). After the war, North Miami Beach experienced rapid growth as people moved into it from surrounding areas. The city annexed more neighborhoods over time until it had a total population of over 100,000 people in 1970 when it merged with Overtown to form one municipality named North Miami Beach
