North Lauderdale is located on both sides of the Everglades and bordered by Coral Gables to the north and west, Pompano Beach to the east and south, and Miami Gardens to the southeast. The City of North Lauderdale was created from parts of Plantation Keyes in 1892 by Judge Augustus Parker. The original town site included what are now White Knights Road (northbound), Northwest 1st Street (westbound), Northeast 3rd Street (southbound), Corporate Drive (eastbound), Sunrise Drive (westbound) and Lauderhill Boulevard/Boulevard Parkway ( northwest). In 1905 a new townsite was platted around what are now Worth Avenue and Northwest 2nd Street with land that had been donated by Trustee Julius Krugman In 1916Judge Harry Hargrave recommended incorporation of North Lauderdale as a municipality after extensive hearings at his home on Worth Avenue near Lighthouse Point which were attended by many influential residents including Mayor Elias Cummings On October 11th 1916 incorporation papers were filed with Supervisor John Fenton On December 4th 1916 voters approved incorporation giving rise to today's name A referendum for annexation into Dade County failed on November 21st 1920 but annexation did take place on March 17th 1921 resulting in ZIP code 33314 becoming part of North Lauderdale In 1927 Dr. A.C. Coleman became headmaster of Kendall School District No 7 which included North Lauderdale; he moved Kendall School District No 7 into its own building in 1928 Dr Coleman also served as Superintendent from 1927 until his death in 1957 He left behind an outstanding legacy as one of our most successful school superintendents during this time period . After leaving Kendall School District No 7 Dr Coleman began operations at Our Lady’s convent school where he would remain until his death in 1969 .....Dr Coleman singlehandedly founded Our Lady’s convent school while still superintendent.. ...the first all girls high school opened later that year .... womens basketball teams made their debut againstvarious other high schools throughout South Florida ......
