North Lauderdale (sometimes spelled Northville) is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. However, due to World War II Gotthold Kloss's Master Plan for downtown Miami (which called for building two levels of parking garages without underground streets), North Lauderdale never saw full development until the late 1960s when new office towers such as One Lighthouse Pointe replaced older warehouses/industrial buildings with highrise apartments/condos which now line much of Biscayne Boulevard between Northwest First Street and Northwest Second Street near Fifth Avenue international airport). In 1966–1968, following approval from then-Mayor Joe Alioto,[1] work began on what would become known as "The Park" – an innovative urban renewal project designed to bring high quality housing into neighborhoods such as Overtown and MidtownMiami while also creating new jobs in engineering and construction.[2][3] The Park involved demolition of entire blocks adjacent to downtown including most of those now lining Biscayne Boulevard between Northwest First Street and Northwest Second Streets near Fifth Avenue international airport) leaving only cheap Lots A through D available for sale; these were subdivided into small plots which eventually became home mortgages or condos[4][5][6].
