North Lauderdale, Florida is a city located in Broward County, Florida. The population was 73,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade metropolitan area. North Lauderdale was founded in 1925 as a small town on Bulls Bayou and became an incorporated municipality in 1953. It became a city on December 1, 1990. Before its establishment as a city, North Lauderdale was part of both Broward County and Fort Lauderdale County. In 1923,Broward County commissioners voted to merge with Fort Lauderdale County so that the two counties could share resources more evenly. However, this merger did not happen and North Lauderdale remained within Broward County until 1953 when it became an incorporated municipality under the name "North Lauderdale." In 1959, North Lauderhill formed a municipal annexation with Plantation which had previously been annexed by Fort Myers Beach. This annexation increased the population of both cities by 10%. In 1984, Sunrise Township merged into North Lauderdale along with Hollywood Park which had also been annexed byFort Myers Beach. As result of this merger, Sunrise Township now includes parts of Hollywood Hills and Kendall Park neighborhoods within North Lauderdale as well as most of Bloomfield Avenue between Northwest 1st Street and Northwest 8th Street inside South Fort Myers Boulevard; however these boundaries are still somewhat fluid because Bloomfield Avenue crosses into Overtown from South Fort Myers Boulevard several times during its length
