In the early 1940s, Niceville was home to a small American air force base. The purpose of thebase was unknown, but it must have been something important because in 1945, when the United States lost World War II and its allies, they transferred their aircraft and equipment from the base to nearby RAF Little Whinging. Here until 1951, the RAF used Little Whinging as an airfield for training pilots for Allied fighters such as the Spitfire and Hurricane. In 1951, when NATO disbanded and all of its member countries became independent nations, Niceville came under control of French forces. The airport remained in French hands until 1974 when it was leased to United States Air Force Base (USAFB) South Florida at Miramar AFB. It then reverted back to USAAF control and served as an operational airfield for USAFB fighter-bombers and bombers until it closed in 1992. The airport remains intact but is now used as a civilian airport by Clearwater Beach Airport which is located just south of it on State Road 904.
Niceville is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,737 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. Niceville is located on State Road 24, about 20 miles east of downtown Tampa and 30 minutes southwest of Clearwater. The first settler in Niceville was Wm. Hixon and his family who arrived in 1836. The first store in Niceville opened on Commerce Street in 1838. When state road 24 was established, it ran through what is now the eastern edge of town and so the first post office was established near where US-1 ends today (near milepost 9). In 1907, John Fenton built a small cotton gin and mill here which continues to operate to this day as Fenton's Millinery Shop & TV Store #2A (now Home Depot). In 1914, Mrs. Jules Pemberton donated land for a new public school which became Middle High School; the current high school building dates from that year. In 1922, Old Trafford Elementary School opened which served as both primary and secondary school until 1958 when it merged with Middle High School to form nicerville Schools JROTC Academy (later renamed Peninsula Christian HS) which operated until 1984 when it merged again with Middle High School to form niceville schools district; finally beautiful high school opened its doors on November 6th 1985 after being started by our beloved Mrs. Jules Pemberton herself!

Since then, red dots have become popular for handguns and rifles in both civilian and military applications. The first reflex sights were made by Weaver Brothers Manufacturing Company in 1892 using two lenses glued together onto a Ferris wheel mount. These early reflex sights used reflectors along one edge of each lens while the other focused on an objective lens placed behind them which naked eye could not see due to limitations in vision at that time. A key improvement over earlier designs was that this early type included windage and elevation adjustments as well as magnification levels which allowed users fine tune their shots without having to remove their weapon from its holster or dismount from their horse for calibration purposes A few years later, Vickers Sons & Co developed their own version of the Weaver sight which became known as “The Red Dot” because it resembled a small red star above the bore axis upon initial inspection.
