When Niceville was founded in 1907, it was the most isolated community in southern Florida. It consisted of a few homes and a small town center. Today, Niceville is a bedroom community for Miami-Dade County and its population has grown to over 100,000 residents. The town's history can be traced back to 1907 when three men from Naples, Italy, built a home on the site that now stands in downtown Niceville. They named their new settlement after themselves – Nonna (niece) Villa and brothers Giovanni and Paolo Villa. Niceville's growth began slowly but steadily over the years. In 1928, the city fathers decided to rename their town after General George C. Marshall – one of America's leading military leaders during World War II. Marshall had played an important role in founding Howard University and later served as United States Secretary of Defense under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Marshall's visit to Niceville happened just before the outbreak of World War II which led to the city getting involved in what would become known as the "Holiday Revolution." Residents put together a committee to help with food storage and distribution during wartime shortages; they also created local businesses such as radio stations KBCO (AM) and WLAC (FM). The City Manager at the time was JF Halloran who also helped lead efforts to rebuild downtown following WWII damage caused by Hurricane Andrew. Thanksgiving Day 1945 saw another major event take place in Niceville when President Harry S Truman delivered his first State ofthe Union Address from Capitol Hill inside Independence Hall on Main Street – one of only two cities in Florida then designated as part of Washington D.C.– Recognizing that Floridians were closely tied with their country through various holidays, Truman declared November 25th National Holiday Preserving all these special days within our calendar so that everyone may enjoy them while they still possible do so!

The city benefits both financially from increased electricity use by businesses within its borders as well as from reduced carbon dioxide emissions resulting from energy production at Centurylink's facilities within town limits
