In 1907, the chamber held their second picnic on the same site. The event coincided with the centennial of Florida's statehood and included games, music, and refreshments for all participants. In 1916, a band played at the park for an audience that numbered over 100 people. That year, Lake Niceville was also used as a movie set for "The Land about To Say Goodbye".
Niceville, Florida is a small town located in Lee County, Florida. The population was 9,992 at the 2010 census. Niceville is known for its golf courses and shopping areas. The town's slogan is "The Friendly Village". Niceville was named after General Edward H. Smith who fought in the Mexican-American War and later became governor of Florida. Niceville's history goes back to 1872 when two brothers, Dawson and George Nicely founded the town on a tract of land that they had purchased from Captain John Sweeny. Nicely's heirs developed the business aspect of the town by developing retail stores, restaurants, and a bowling alley. In 1907, Gussie Schmidt bought the inn which now serves as the main hotel in Niceville. This development led to increased tourism for Niceville which helped it become a major economic center during the late 19th century and early 20th century. In 1939, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company opened its new plant in downtownNiceville which quickly became one of America's most important tire companies with operations throughout Southeast Asia and Latin America. It also stimulated local economy by creating new jobs within local companies such as Pinnacle Props Incorporated (later renamed Pinnacle Cinemas), True Image Graphics Corporation (later renamed True Image Images) and Gulfstream Paper Products Incorporated (now wholly owned by Mohawk Industries). In addition to providing good paying jobs during wartime production shortages, this large factory also created over 100 direct jobs when it closed in 1993 due to low demand from Hurricane Andrew destroying many California factories; making this one of North America’s earliest post-Hurricane reconstruction efforts Many people believe that if it weren’t for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s investment inNiceville during World War II our country would not have been able to rebuild after Catastrophe

Niceville is a city in Leon County, Florida, United States. The population was 31,811 at the 2010 census. Niceville is the county seat of Leon County. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Hialeah Combined Statistical Area. Niceville's nickname "The Gateway to the Gulf" comes from its location within easy driving distance of both Fort Walton Beach and Daytona Beach. Niceville grew up around a plantation where slaves worked until 1865. The town was founded on November 12, 1881 by Jens Christensen and his family when they took over an old sawmill in what is now downtown Niceville. The name "Niceville" comes from Norwegian meaning " beautiful place ". In 1907, Czar Nicholas II visited Niceville while on his way to visit some plantations in Florida and noted that it looked like a nice place but he decided not to move there because he wanted more modern infrastructure for his Russian subjects living in America. In 1909, Anthony Litchfield donated land along US-1 north of town for annexation into the new state of Florida as part of the original map drawn up after Seminole Wars ended in 1835 which divided Creek Nation between Seminole Indian Territory east of Tampa Bay (now Polk) and Gainesville proper (now Hillsborough), with Hollywood as the easternmost extent ofbrowseable territory under both sections'. When Broward County was created in 1895 out of portions west of Lake Okeechobee, Litchfield's donation became part of that county too; however Gainesville residents continued to refer to their own municipality as "Nicevil". A small community called Vernon had been established near Clearwater before it too merged into Gainesville during prohibition era ; however Vernon still uses its original name today even though most residents moved away during prohibition years and only a few people still live there today . An early Coca Cola bottling plant was built on Ponce de Leon Boulevard east side entryway off I-4 just south side street exit ramp near present day State Road 441 about 1937 or 1938 by Wm Fenton who also built Plant #2 across SR 441 south side street entrance ramp opposite Plant #1 & fed water back into lakes east side Street enterance Ramp w/FD well
Niceville was founded in 1887 by the Gadsden Purchase Company. It became a municipality in 1907 and a city in 1959. The population of Niceville was 4,044 as of 2010.
