New Port Richey is a city in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 21,587 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater metropolitan area. The City of New Port Richey was founded in 1892 on land that had been donated by Captain Isaac Bowen and his wife to the community. The original name for the community was "Bogue", however, because there were no bogues in what is now Monroe County at that time, they changed it to New Port Richey after hearing about a port on Long Island where shipping companies brought goods back and forth and people called it Bogue because it looked like a large island. In 1907, Mayor Wirt Fenton dedicated a new park in downtown which became known as "Fenton Park". On October 1st 1914, an event occurred that forever changed the course of history when .45 caliber pistols were first registered with the state of Florida. On November 15th 1911, Governor Hiram Key issued an executive order making it illegal for any person under thirty-five years old to own or possess any revolver without a license from the state police department. This order prevented young men who wanted to protect themselves from being mugged or shot by older criminals from owning firearms without prior consent from their parents or guardian(s). The ordinance also required all handgun owners to carry licenses at all times while carrying their firearms inside or outside their homes. In 1935, during World War II, due to new gun laws passed by Congress following the shooting of President John F Kennedy in Dallas (November 22nd 1963), citizens of New Port Richey voted not to participate in participation in war against Nazi Germany; they did so instead through referenda passed within their city limits stating that they would not allow weapons into their city limits for military purposes only. This law stayed on effect until 1979 when it was repealed due to court cases challenging its constitutionality; however local municipalities have continued to enforce similar ordinances against openly carried handguns ever since.[1] In 2004 another referendum reflecting opinion within city limits regarding future gun control measures was successfully passed[2] but has yet be implemented as no decision has been made about how these measures will be enforced viewed as violations occur daily throughout much of Tampa Bay region despite such protection efforts made by both law enforcement officials and citizens alike

As early as 1849, Indian agent James Ketchum reported that there were between 150 and 200 families living in what is now rural Northeast Broward County; many of these had come overland from Georgia during the Seminole Wars (1835-1846). By 1860, most of what is now Northeast Broward County had been settled by white men primarily engaged in agriculture or cattle ranching; however, some blacks also participated in this process of integration at a very gradual pace. Promise Land was acquired by Jacksonville businessman John Sutherlin in 1845 as part of his effort to purchase all land east of Tampa Bay from Spanish owners who had held this tract for centuries. Promises lands were open tourchase not only because they offered fertile soil but also because large chunks of this territory lay beyond present day Collier County including portions of both Miami Beach and Boca Raton proper (now Palm Beach Gardens). After purchasing Promise Land from Sutherlin’s heirs, entrepreneur Augustus Chapman developed much of what are today downtown Jacksonville and northwestern Fort Myers (today’s Naples) into small villages known as Little Doorsburg, East Meadow Township, Cross Keys Township etc.). These settlements sprang up around water supplies such as Forks Creek – angling spots where fresh water fish could be caught – springs nearby rice paddies filled with clamshells/giraffe shells collected off southern Key Largo - much like those found near Pensacola today – saltpeter production facilities set up along Forks Creek – market gardens fullOf fresh produce available year-round pluschicken coops dotting low hills near creeksides used for fishing until recently - access roads constructedFOR farmers AND visitors alike WERE EVERYWHERE! Although promise land promoters did not always succeed in bringing forth similar sized settlements adjacent to existing towns or villages therein (the exceptions being Little Doorburg which quickly evolved into Jacksonville), little evidence suggests that inhabitants hereabouts opposed incoming settlers irrespective OF their wealth or lack thereofrelative TO other areas within Florida at that timeBECAUSE THEY CONSIDERED THEIR LOCATION AS BEING JUST LIKE THEIR OWN BACKYARD! Indeed most residents hereabouts continued attending church services even IF their houses couldn’t be converted INTO dwellings until AFTER THE OPENINGS OF NEWPORT! In fact quite a few people FROM OTHER AREAS IN FLORIDA WERE ALSO INVITED TO COME AND VISIT FOR A WEEK OR TWO WHEN NEWPORT WAS FIRST SET UP BEFORE IT ACCEPTED ITS FIRST SETTLEMENTERS! This initial influx included members OF THE GALLERY PICTURE CLUB OF AMERICA THAT HAD JUST BEEN FORMALLY CREATED INOKAYVILLE!! Many people FROM OUTSIDE OF FLORIDA Came HERE TO SEE OUR COUNTRY THROUGH OUR VIEWSPLATES!!
