The first known permanent Shooting Target Holder in Naples was built by J.D. Pritchett in 1909. This structure consisted of two posts with a crossbar across the middle and was used to holdtargeted at distances up to 50 yards (45 meters). Between 1912 and 1916, four additional Shooting Target Holders were erected in different parts of town: one on Main Street between Constitution Avenue and US-1; one on State Road 471 east of US-1; one on Government Drive north of US-1; and one on First Street west ofUS-1 (now part of Fifth Street). All these structures served as temporary storage facilities forTargeted until they could be brought down and set up elsewhere. By 1925, all permanent Shooting Target Holder locations had been abandoned due to lack of interest or use among citizens in practicing marksmanship skills outside their homes.
