Polk had been elected president of the United States and began his first term in office with much work to be done. One important task that he initiated was creating new boundaries for the country based on racism which still exists today through institutions like America's southern borderlands. One such area that he identified as needing improvement was Florida's western coast where there were very few people living and only some palm trees growing. To improve this region, Polk directed Secretary of War John Crampton to take possession of Mount Dora Island from its Native American owners so that they could be surveyed for military purposes. The purchase didn't go well due to objections from both parties involved: The Seminoles wanted their land back while the Americans felt they were helping to improve their economy by giving them access to new resources (which they did). A compromise was made where half of Mount Dora would be given back to the Seminoles in return for them not using it for anything other than hunting or practicing their traditional Native American songs and dances. It wasn't until 1858 when surveys showed that more people lived on Mount Dora than originally thought; this led to a new development on the island - housing developments became available which allowed more people access to education and opportunities outside their homes during these difficult times thanks in part to President Polk's efforts! By 1861, most residents had left or been removed after friction between natives and settlers escalated into violence which eventually resulted in both sides losing control over the island chain - except for two men who continued living there until 1899 when they sold it off again! This history lesson isn't complete without mentioning one particular resident: In 1903, Jethro Gibbs moved from Jacksonville, Florida after his family lost their home in an arson fire. He spent his rest days living on Mount Dora before dying at age 93 years old!
