In Mount Dora, Florida, there is a history of bipods. There are references to bipods from the 1800s and early 1900s. The first bipod was created in 1876 by Captain John A. Wetherbee in Mount Dora as a way to improve his artillerynery skills. After World War I, the use of bipods decreased because they were not needed as much with new guns that could fire multiple rounds per minute. However, during the late 1960s and 1970s, users started to use bipods again because they were difficult to find traditional rifles that used checkered stocks. Today, most people know about and use bipods when shooting shotguns or rifles outfitted with optical sights or lasers. Mount Dora was first settled in 1871 by German settlers on a peninsula formed by two forks of the St. Johns River. The town post office was established in 1872, and it became part of Tampa in 1906. It was renamed Mount Dora in 1916 after Major General James H. Mounts, commander of American forces during World War I and later governor of Florida. The Mount Dora Baptist Church has been serving the community since 1892. A shopping center with five stories opened in 1978, and another development called Bayview Place plans to open next year near Lake Okeechobee mouth on the St Johns River. A golf course and country club were completed in 2001 adjacent to bayou Mandioux; they are now used as transient housing for refugees from Hurricane Katrina who have retreated there since September 2005

Mount Dora is a small, unincorporated community located in Hillsborough County, Florida. The community was founded in 1892 by the group of Mount Dora United Methodist Church members who resided on the mountain. The first post office was established in 1893 and closed in 1957. The present day Mount Dora community began to grow after it became available for development as part of the Clearwater Beach Development Corporation's land acquisition policy during the late 1940s. It has since undergone rapid growth with over 1,000 residents currently residing within its boundaries. The earliest known inhabitants of what is now Mount Dora were Creek Indians who hunted and gathered plants near where they lived today. In 1892, a group of Methodist church members from nearby Clearwater Beach started settlements on the mountain because they wanted to create a place where their congregation could worship without fear of being mobbed by local Native Americans. Over time, other Christian denominations joined the Methodist Church at Mount Dora and soon there were several small churches occupied by different groups of people: farmers, fishermen, miners, lumberjacks and others. In 1907, Clearwater Beach Development Corporation acquired 2 million acres (8 km2) of undeveloped beachfront property between Pinellas Trail (now US-1) and Lake Worth Boulevard for $3 per acre ($10/km²). Thisprovided an opportunity for developers to build large homes along Pinellas Trail while also leaving open space for future development around Clearwater Beach proper. As this area developed into one of South Tampa’s most popular tourist destinations during World War II due to its convenient access to beaches and coastal stores ashore as well as its strategic location within minutes’ walk of downtown Tampa Bay Area restaurants and hospitals - including Camp Lemelson Air Force Base - businesses quickly responded to offer properties for sale or lease at prices that could rival those enjoyed by homeowners in larger city centers across America! Today – more than 125 years after initial settlement – Mount Dora remains a thriving community with close-knit relationships between natives (Creek people), newcomers (Americans) and their descendants; vibrant economy based largely on tourism; quality schools; thriving arts & culture scene; world-class golf courses; active civic engagement
Mount Dora, Florida was established in 1828 by the United States. The town was named after General John P. Dunmore, who had led an American forces against Seminole Indians in 1818. The fortifications at the extreme northwest corner of the town were built to protect settlers from Seminoles and other Native Americans.
