Miramar is a small town located in Duval County, Florida, United States. It was founded in 1892 by John F. Miramar and his wife Anna Pritchard as a station on the Jacksonville-Tallahassee Railroad. In that year, it merged with neighboring Plantation to form the City of Miramar. The early history of Miramar is intertwined with that of Jacksonville and Tallahassee itself. John F. Miramar was a leading figure in both cities and he helped contribute to their growth and success. He was born in 1847 in County Donegal, Ireland and immigrated to the United States at age 20 with his family. After five years working odd jobs, he started his own business importing goods from Ireland into the United States on the steamboat Demerara (SS). When the railroad came through Miramar in 1892, Miramer moved his business to what is now known as First Street North. And so began one of Jacksonville's most significant eras – an era which would seemirrorry businesses move into townspeople's homes across entire blocks on first Streets North and South as well as elsewhere throughout downtown during this period! John F.'s son John J., who followed father into business ownership, expanded operations even further when he purchased land along First Street North between Polk and Market Streets for use as an industrial park which would later become known as Miracle Mile! This area became home to such major companies as Coca Cola Refreshment Company (later Parke-Davis), Anheuser Busch Brewery (later Budweiser), Sears Roebuck & Co., Ford Motor Company’s US plants (the Park Avenue plant being built there), IBM Laboratories (later Honeywell) among others! Finally, after World War II ended and all these businesses vacated or were sold off due to militarysurplus values falling below market prices, development began anew with new companies moving into Miracle Mile including Checkers Casino Resort Resort & Conference Center; Key West Marina; NASA’s Johnson Space Center; then Sunoco Plaza Shopping Center before finally coming full circle back to First StreetNorth becoming home once again to local businesses only! Today much of what used TO beMirimar has been replaced by nearby Callahan Beach while some remaining structures such as John F.'s original store still stand today within sight of Miracle Mile Boulevard!
