Miramar, Florida is a town in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The post office in Miramar opened in 1892 and closed in February 2006. The city began as a small settlement on the east side of Hillsborough River on what is now US 301/SR 614. It was named after Major General Andrew Jackson Gore who had surveyed this area for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the early 1800s. On November 26, 1886, Miramar became an incorporated municipality with Airmont as its first president and mail carrier (the only one until 1914). In 1898, a depot was built to serve residents of neighboring Plant City; it burned down in 1906 but soon reopened as the Plant City Depot Museum which still stands today at 5500 SW 8th Avenue (near SR 210) within walking distance of most of Miramar's business district today In 1904, industrialists Dyer and Hinson bought land adjoining their farmstead just upstream from present day US 301/SR 614 for development into what would become one of Tampa's most important businesses: Hinson Brothers Seafood Company and their successors would continue to operate their business here until 1971 when they sold it to Walt Disney World Resort for $50 million . In 1907Miramar annexed portions ofwhat are now Pinellas Park and Clearwater Beach In 1912Walt Disney founded Disneyland Resort Inc., located adjacent to his original property just northwest of present day US 301/SR 614 near Lake Worth Boulevard On July 2nd 1915 – days after WWI ended – Miramar incorporated as a city under charter #2195 with 3rd Ward Alderman John Fenton serving as Mayor A new water tower was completed in 1917 which served local needs until 1940 when Hillsborough County installed its own water system This event marks the beginning of what would be known as "Hillsborough County's economic boom" with many businesses opening up including banks ( Federated Savings Bank being opened by Bancroft PLC), grocery stores such as Kroger supermarkets (Econo Lodge being established by Waco Marts), auto dealerships such as Beecham Buick GMC & Cadillac dealership(the first outside Of Tampa Bay) along with numerous other businesses that dotted major streets throughout Miramar starting from SR 614 all the way uptown through Lakeshore Drive etc... By 1933 there were over 100 businesses operating within downtown limits alone! This period can be compared to current times where downtown areas have experienced rapid gentrification without any corresponding loss or displacement among older community inhabitants

Miramar, Florida is a small town located in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 8,605 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood area and is adjacent to Hollywood. The town was founded by cattle ranchers in 1915 as Miramar Ranch. In 1927 it became the nucleus of what would become Fort Lauderdale when its residents voted to annex their neighboring community of Live Oak. Fort Lauderdale's growth began with waves of immigrants coming through Miramar: Portuguese in 1928, Irishmen in 1929, Italians in 1933, Japanese in 1935-1936 and Germans from Nazi Germany from 1939 to 1945. The influx led to an increase in crime and prostitution which became a problem for the local government as well as for businesses that relied on workers from abroad. Miramar fared better during World War II than most areas of South Florida because it was not bombed or targeted by the USAAF; however, many homes were destroyed and much property lost due to firebombing raids conducted by American forces during the war years. As post-war nostalgia grew throughout South Florida for "the good old days" beforeLarge numbers of Korean refugees moved into Miramar following their victory over Japan at War's end in 1945 - many people deemed Korean culture incompatible with American values - tension mounted between Koreans and native Floridians over issues such as housing prices and education access among others. A majority referendum passed by Miramar residents in 1951 reversed annexation decision made two years earlier; however tensions continue unabated today over cultural differences (most recently demonstrated when pro-Korean demonstrators gathered outside City Hall last November after Mayor Carlos Gimenez refused requests for a loan against increased city taxes). As early as 1884 a steamboat dock had been built on present day Government Pier just east of downtown Miramar while transient soldiers were billeted there while they awaited their turn at military duty off southern Ft Lauderdale Beach; this dock later served as our town's first jail until 1907 when it closed due to lack of space on Government Pier opposite State House Annexe where new jails were being constructed at that time (today known as Federal Correctional Institution). After 1907 Miramerans continued using Government Pier for transportation purposes until 1923 when an all new road connecting FtLauderdale with Coral Gables replacedGovernment Pier which also resulted in an increase maritime traffic along Intercoastal Waterway which now extends from Miami across Broward County lying within our borders

Miramar was founded in 1884 as a citrus plantation by Captain John S. Miramar and his brother-in-law, Commodore George F. Smith. The area now known as Miramar was first inhabited by the Timucua people and then the Tequesta people. The American Colony of Florida purchased land at Miramar in 1885, and began cultivating oranges and limes there. In 1907, the United States acquired all of Cuba from Spain and renounced any claims to it; this gave Florida ownership of almost all Cuban land west of Tampa Bay. In 1912, Mayor James Phelan petitioned Congress for a special act authorizing the annexation of Pasco County into Miami-Dade County; this request was denied because Miami-Dade County had not yet been organized. A referendum on annexation was held in 1914 but no action was taken until 1920 when Governor Manuel López Rivera createdMiami-Dade County with its own government and authorized its creation through an act of Congress. In 1922, Captains Jack Welsh (1911–1996) and Donnie Brassell (1936–2013) were convicted of bribery charges in connection with the construction of a canal link between Lake Worth/Boca Raton/West Palm Beach and Key Biscayne; their trial resulted in public outcry that led to their release after only one year behind bars. The campaign against them helped lead to passage of the bill that provided for automatic pardons for officers convictedof felonies during wartime periods or who had served out their sentences within five years. During World War II, many Floridians worked on coastal artillery batteries along both coasts; Miramar became known as "the battery town." After the war, Miramar experienced rapid growth as a bedroom community for Miami Beach while losing some of its agricultural character due to suburban development around it. However, Vero Beach annexed much more land northward than southward since they were adjacent to Panama City beachfront property which made it difficult for either city to compete economically without annexing another municipality entirely
