In 1892, George Morrison and Jane Morrison moved from Jacksonville to establish a small farming center near what is now known as NW 2nd Street and SW 3rd Avenue in what is now Miramar Village. After two years they sold their share of the business to Averill Harriman Jr., who developed it into one of America's first aluminum smelters with its original plant still standing today (now used as office space). In 1906, when water rates began rising rapidly due to construction projects associated with turnpike construction across the county, Miramar voters passed a $5 per capita assessment rate which raised money needed to maintain public services such as schools and roads without raising taxes. This contributed significantly to keeping Miramar Village open during World War I while other villages were destroyed or bombed; attendance at school continued even though many homes were destroyed around him during that time period; Unfortunately this example does not stand up well against more recent times where sectionalism has caused considerable budget cuts affecting all aspects including education so much so that some students are forced out onto Tampa Streets or have no choice but attend charter schools which often perform worse than traditional public schools
