In 1909, the city of Fort Lauderdale annexed Miramar, making it a part of the city's Limits system which included all of Broward County except unincorporated Palm Beach County. In 1916, Fort Lauderdale annexed Belleview while Miramar annexed Sunrise with its own town hall and school district (later renamed Sunrise Beach). In 1932, these two towns merged to form one municipality with name change to Miracle City aftera campaign slogan by then-Mayor James Ewart Holmes Sr.. The Miracle City Business Improvement District was created in 1957 which continues today as Miracle City Corporation Limited
