"Bucky" Howard of the Miami Beach Yacht Club, which was then located on Flagler Street. Captain Howard's mountings were designed specifically for using his yacht as a shooting platform. In 1907, Captain Harry Payne of the Neptune Plateau Yacht Club began using scope mounts on his schooner Enterprise to help improve his shooting skills. By 1912, scopes had become standard equipment on many yachts in South Florida and Miami became an important center for optics and shooting sports. By 1919, manual turrets had replaced captainHoward's manually operated mounts and Miami became home to one of the most accomplished optical departments in America. Scope mounts are devices that allow the use of a rifle’s iron sights in any direction, regardless of the rifles barrel’s position. This is especially helpful for troops movements, as it allows them to fire in all directions while still keeping their weapon pointing downrange. These mounts also come in various types and sizes, making them perfect for different rifles. The two most common type of scope mounts are Weaver style and Harris bipod style mounts. Weaver style mounts typically have two screws at each end which hold the scope on to the riflestock and allow it to rotate 360 degrees. A Harris bipod mount features a single screw at the top which attaches to an infantryman's shoulder pad or helmet, allowing it to be rotated around 360 degrees as well. There are also several "crew" type scopes that can be used with either Weaver or Harris mounting systems. The downside is that these scopes often require some modification ( usually by adding an extra screw on one side) in order to work with either Harris or Weaver mounting systems.

There are many different types of scope mounts available, including those that use clamps and those that use screws. The first type of scope mount was called a "C-mount." These were device that used clamps to attach to the barrel, making them less stable than later versions. In 1955, Flemish engineer Johan de Wit created what would become known as the "DeWitt Scope Mount." DeWitt's mount consisted of two parts: a baseplate and an armature. The armature was made from metal or plastic and it held onto the baseplate via two screws. This design became popular because it allowed for more stable mounting than earlier C-mounts. The second type of scope mount was called a "D-mount." These were devices that used screws instead of clamps to attach to the barrel. This design allowed for greater stability but also required more effort to attached/detach from the firearm than later variants. In 1966, Pericles bowyer created what would become known as the "Pericles Bowmaker Scope Mount." This mount consisted of three parts: a baseplate, an armature, and a black ring around the outside diameter of the armature. The aim point on this mount was located on top of one circumferential steel screw protruding from within the black ring in order to stabilize your shots without needing any other supports (like clamps). This design became very popular due to its stability and easy installation process compared to earlier D-mountersinks designs which relied upon using clamps or screws alone.
In the early 1960s, a new type of mount was developed for rifles that allowed the firearm to be placed on an adjustable arm rest with its barrel elevated above the ground. This type of mount is known as a telescoping stock mount. This technology evolved into the modern day rifle grenade launcher (RLG).
The city of Miami, Florida was founded in 1795 by the Spanish as a small trading post on the mouth of the Miami River. The area that is now Miami was part of French Louisiana before the American Revolution. In 1821, after America acquired Independence from Great Britain, President James K. Polk issued a proclamation creating what is today known as "Dade County" and giving it to Carlos de la Torre, who had been appointed its first sheriff. After serving for two years, de la Torre resigned because he could not agree with Polk's decision to annex part of Cuba into Dade County. In 1826 Dade County was renamed Miami-Dade County after Nicholas Biddle Marcomir DeSoto, an executive officer with American East India Company who had purchased land east of present day downtownMiami from José Ortiz y Martinez. By this time most of what is now DowntownMiami had been developed as a result of cattle and agricultural production. On October 13th 1893, while driving through DowntownMiami on his way to dinner at the age old Don Julio restaurant at Southwest Eighth Street and Northwest Second Avenue (now University Drive), Mayor Manuel López Miranda set off a dynamite blast that destroyed several buildings within blocks of City Hall; one still stands today! The Miami area has a long and diverse history. The area was first inhabited by the Tequesta people in the mid-15th century. In 1565, Juan Ponce de Leon discovered the island of Cuba while sailing for Spain, and named it after his hometown of Monterrey, Mexico. He also donated land to the Spanish government on which Miami now stands. In 1795, Governor Manuel Fraga founded Miami as a Danish colony. The colonists soon became embroiled in a conflict with the native peoples, who raided their plantations and killed some of the colonists. In 1807, Mexican forces invaded Florida and forced the Danish colonists to flee; they were replaced by British settlers known as "Cockburn's Brigade." By 1813, however, both Britain and Mexico had withdrawn from Florida; Miami became an American territory under US control. Miami's early years were difficult; its population was small and there was little trade or industry available for development. However, thanks to its location at the mouth of an estuary that provided natural shipping routes into South America and Caribbean Sea ports, Miami flourished as a port town during this time period. This period is also remembered for important milestones such as construction of Key Biscayne Boulevard (now called Liberty Avenue) and building of Kendall Park (now part of University Drive). "During this time period [1830s], much progress was made in developing Miamis infrastructure including Key Biscayne Boulevard which today forms one block east of downtown."
