The areas now known as the Everglades and Miami Lakes were all part of what was once called “The Swamp”. With so much water to cover, it was no wonder that firearms were often used for hunting and target practice there. In 1892, two men by the name of Hanes and Moody bought 3 acres on which they established what is now known as Miami Springs Shooting Club. It wasn’t until 1924 that a pistol range opened up onsite. This allowed people from throughout South Florida to come visit and use their handguns for practicing at this beautiful location. Some of the prominent shooters who used Miami Springs in its early days include Earl Stoneman, Jack Boucher, Bud Selig, Sammy Davis Jr., Jackie Gleason, Don Rickles and many more. In 1977, it closed its doors permanently due to changing demographics in South Florida and dwindling membership however some of its legacy still remains today with new members being able to join shooters every Thursday night at 7pm since 1975!

After repeal of prohibition, many new businesses opened up such as a dry cleaner, supermarket chain Safeway, florists including First Floral Gardens Inc., beauty salon Kato & Associates Salon and Spa, pet services firm True North Animal Hospitality Services LLC., major league baseball team the Marlins (now called Washington Nationals), several small businesses such as home improvement stores magnolia gardencenter llc., record label Rhino Records Group LLC., three restaurants - Joe's Pizza on NW Second Avenue; The Donut Shop on SW Second Avenue; and Burger King - all opened during or shortly after 1990s Economic Boom which followed successful marketing campaigns by then-Mayor Tomás Rivera with help from then-Vice President Carlos Gutierrez In late 2006 there were accusations that Mayor Rivera had engaged in corruption while he served as mayor of Miami Springs
