Miami Springs, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade metropolitan area. In 1892, Nelsons opened a store in what is now Miami Springs and began selling firearms to farmers and civilians. By 1916, Nelsons had moved his store to its current location on Northwest First Street. In 1928, Nelsons married Maynard's daughter Hilda and founded the city's first gun range there. In 1934, he donated land for a new school in Miami Springs and gave it to the community as a gift. In 1945, Donny and Shirley Payne bought an old grocery store in Coral Gables and renovated it into the Coral Gables Gun Shop & Pistol Range which remains open today as one of Miami Springs' most popular attractions for shooting enthusiasts of all levels of experience!

During Spanish control of South Florida from 1665 until 1898 Juan Perez de Arellano granted immunity to all Native Americans living within Spanish territory whether they owned land or not so long as they did not attack Spaniards or try to convert them to Catholicism; any Indians caught converting would be executed either alive or buried with their weapons exposed so that other Indians could learn from their mistakes ().
