In 1925, Coral Gables annexed part of Miami Springs due to its annexation policy being more lenient than other counties at that time and most properties annexed were those considered unimportant or too far away from downtown for residential use or commercial development; however, portions of eastern Miami Springs remained annexed until 1959 when they became their own municipality called "Coral Gables." Prior to World War II, much of Miami Springs' active commerce took place along US-1 between Homestead and Fort Lauderdale because there wasn't any rail service available until after the war began providing transportation options for goods important for island countries such as Puerto Rico and Cuba which depended on U.S.-based shipments coming through Port Everglades which stopped at Boca Raton then continued via Havana before reaching Key West where they unloaded onto boats bound for mainland Cuba or points south before being transported back upriver again into mainland America via Tampa Bay where they loaded onto ships destined for Haiti or Mexico City still stopping at Boca Raton en route before finally continuing their journey northward across Tampa Bay before arriving in their final destination either ashore orShipping containers off shore
