It is part of the Miami metropolitan area and is known for its springs and golf courses. The first people to settle in Miami Springs were Methodists from North Carolina. In 1892, prospectors discovered rich gold and silver veins near the springs. The following year, a group of businessmen organized a society to explore this potential land. In 1896, they submitted an application for incorporation to the county government. After two years of study, they recommended that Miami Springs be incorporated as a village because it had enough water resources and appeared promising for development. On October 12th, 1898,Miami Springs was incorporated as a municipality with six appointed trustees who would manage its affairs including roads and schools. In 1902, Mr. Henson donated 1 acre (0 hectares) of his property at SW 151st Street and NW 5th Avenue for use as a public pool which today still operates under that name - one of the most popular swimming sites in South Florida! After years of construction by volunteer firefighters who used their own time and money to build it into what it is today - an excellent example of early 20th century infrastructure – the pool opened on July 11th 1924 when Hurricane Petrel struck south central Florida! Today’s pool complex houses both recreation facilities such as swim lanes and showers; as well as administrative office space for municipal services such as zoning/land Use Appeals & Planning; insurance; street maintenance; event management; fund-raising; marketing research & polling services…..and much more! Only minutes after landfall on September 13th 1924 – just days before the opening of “The Pool” – strong winds blew away all but about 10 feet (3 meters) of topsoil from around 8000 acres (3 km²) surrounding Miami Springs Village boundaries!!! A total project cost came close to $5 million dollars ($102 million Adjusted U S Currency value). With only 8 miles² remaining above sea level due to intense rainfall throughout September 1923-October 1924 followed by poststorm flooding – over 16 inches (40 cm) had fallen on parts within 1000 yards (900 m) around The Pool area!!! And yet despite these challenges engineering no less than 50 men worked continuously non stop day & night during 4 months while heavy rains continued!!!!!! $$ finally Marinas started operations Sept 25 1925 with Capt Edward Ponce in Charge……….the first permanent Resident Manager…………………..a former Merchant Marine officer

During Reconstruction after the Civil War, many white men from surrounding counties moved into central Miami Springs and started new businesses such as grocery stores, banks and cotton plantations. White women also moved into this area beginning in the 1870s to work on farms or marry black men who had left their plantations forMiami Springs. The first school in centrally located MiamiSprings opened its doors in 1881 when Mrs. Anna Cushing set up a one-room schoolhouse near present day NW First Avenue and Seventh Street. By 1903 there were six schools open throughout downtownMiamiSprings with grades PK-12; Central High School closed in 1951 due to enrollment restrictions placed upon it by City Hall; Commerce Middle School (now Thalia Academy) opened in 1959; Dolphin Elementary opened in 1966; and South Beach Junior High School (now Booker T Washington Senior High)opened in 1969. In 1974 Central High School reopened as part of new renovations which included adding an auditorium/ theatre complex which continues to be used today as part of Coral Gables Municipal Schools’ Performing Arts Center (PAC). Since then, many events have taken place at Central High including state fairs、 carnivals\/fairs/parades/promotions including hosting St Pete's Day Parade every year since 1978 along with numerous other events throughout the year that are typically televised or streamed online live onto various websites around world including Facebook Live streams . Additionally current & former city hall employees currently use old City Hall Annex building which is located just east of First Ave./ SEventh St., across from Civic Center Park for private business meetings\/events without having to go through City Hall

Miami Springs quickly grew into a small community with a population of 2,000 people by the end of the century. In 1907, Miami Springs became part of Broward County and began to grow rapidly due to its location close to the county seat of Fort Lauderdale. By 1950, Miami Springs had an estimated population of 10,000 people. By 1990, Miami Springs had reached its peak population size with 20,000 residents. However, after several years of rapid growth, the city experienced a decline in popularity and declined until 2000 when it officially lost its status as a city. Today there are only few remain scattered around the city limits which make it difficult for visitors to experience some aspects of its history firsthand
