Miami Springs is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 5,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sunrise Beach Micropolitan Statistical Area. In 1892 a dam was built upstream from where the springs now are to control the flow of the river and create a pond for use by local farmers. In 1924, developer Harry Beaumont purchased 2,000 acres (820 ha) south of downtown Miami and began building what would eventually become Miami Springs Resort & Casino which opened in 1951. After years of development, construction began on the first phase of Marlins Stadium in 2002 and finished in 2003. The stadium seats over 50,000 people and has been home to various American football teams since it opened including the NFL's Dolphins and MLB's Marlinssince it replaced two other stadiums in this area: Bally’s Park (now EverBank Field) west of downtownMiami and Broward Stadium east of downtownMiami. In addition to hosting regular Major League Baseball games as well as international events such as World Cup Qualifiers played at Marlins Park, both Bally’s Parkand Broward Stadium also host concerts each year during summer months.,

In 1916, the United States Post Office moved into the old post office building which still stands today, served as a museum until 1978, and currently houses the Miami Springs Historical Museum which tells the story of Miami Springs from pre-historic times through modern day events. Today, there are many shops and restaurants located around the town center including two Super Walgreens stores that anchor Main Street. There are also several golf courses located within walking distance of both downtown Miami Springs as well as numerous smaller golf courses throughout Polk County
Miami Springs was founded by Spanish colonists in the early 1800s. The area now known as Miami Springs was originally home to a tribal village that belonged to the Timucua people. In 1820, the U.S. government established Fort Miami at this location, and in 1827, the fort became part of what is now called Miami University. The first businesses in Miami Springs were tanneries and grocery stores, and it wasn't until the late 1800s that there began to be an influx of Americans who started investing in real estate in Miami Springs. The early businesses were soon replaced by restaurants, bars, and casinos which continue to thrive today.
