The springs are located on State Road 441 east of I-595 and north of US 56. They were first discovered in 1892 by prospectors searching for sugarcane in what is now Kendall County. A small village was built at the springs around 1907 before being destroyed by a storm in 1961. The present day village was reestablished as Miami Springs after two floods destroyed all but one building there in 2003 and 2004. The springs have been used for bathing since the early 1800s when it was known as "the best place to bathe". In 1922 a state park was created around the springs and continues to be operated today as Miami Springs State Park with over 12 miles (19 km) of hiking trails and over 20 waterfalls within its boundaries. Miami Springs is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,527 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach metropolitan area. The earliest settlers in Miami Springs were families from Georgia and Tennessee who founded a small community called Springhill on a tract of land that was donated by Mrs. Anna Maria Key to her husband Major George Washington Key in 1843. The settlement grew rapidly due to its location near the mouth of the Miami River and its easy access to railroads and other amenities. In 1848, the Key family sold Springhill to John Blythe for $3,000 and moved their family there permanently. In 1870, commissioners purchased of land north of Springhill from Nicholas Gibbs for $1,000 while surveyors surveyed an additional . In 1872, City Engineer Godfrey Fenton recommended that Miami Springs be incorporated as a village because it had become "a very thriving agricultural center." On October 21st, 1873 – exactly one year after incorporation – the first election held in anticipation of becoming an official village resulted in a virtual tie between James “Jim” Ahern (of nearby Pompano Beach) and Emanuel “Eli” Carrington (of Indian Wells). After much discussion among various board members about what should be done next with such limited resources – including whether or not to erect any fences around the new village – Ahern won by a narrow margin over Carrington with 333 votes to 336 ballots cast. On November 7th1873., voters convened at Masonic Hall to select trustees for Village School District #2 which included all unincorporated areas within Miami Springs boundaries which would form part of future Village boundaries when organized into school districts later that year pursuant to state legislation known as Act 1084 or “The School District Amendment Act” passed by Congress on December 4th 1865 during Reconstruction following the Civil War. Of note are trustee selections made by Board Member James Ahern who served two terms on Village Council before moving up through politics until his death in 1932; second term incumbent Gertrude Keyser serving unexpired terms until her death also in 1932; Arthur Bowen (elected unanimously November 7th1883 after careful consideration given his holdings within newly organized Schools District #2) followed by Frank Waddell (elected unanimously January 3rd 1889 after long service on behalf of Village Trustee position) serving until his retirement effective July 1st 1893; finally Jno Dyer elected unanimously February 25th 1897 succeeding Waddell who had retired effective July 1st 1893 having been elected two years earlier at age 71 years old making him one of oldest members ever elected asVillage Trustee in history
In Miami Springs, Florida, there is a history dating back to the early 1800s. The area was first settled by Native Americans and later became part of Spain. In 1824, American settlers arrived in Miami Springs and began to build homes. By 1830, the community had a population of about 100 people. In 1847, Spanish immigrants started arriving in Miami Springs and soon enough it became an incorporated town. The town's population grew steadily until it reached 500 residents by 1860. The townsfolk formed a local government and made decisions on important issues such as education and public health. They also built churches, schools, and civic centers. After the American Civil War ended in 1865,Miami Springs slowly declined due to lack of resources and economic prosperity throughout the rest of Florida. In the 1930s, however, some new investors set up shop in the town and it began to rebound with more growth thanks to new businesses being opened up along with new housing developments. Today, Miami Springs has a population of about 3200 people which makes it one of the largest communities in Broward County!
