Miami Springs is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. It was founded in 1875 by Colonel John B. Hays and his wife, Sarah. The post office was established in 1876 and the first store opened in 1880. In 1907, Miami Springs became a city and it had its own police department until 1916 when it merged with Polk County. The first organized fire response occurred on July 5, 1907 when A.J. Dooley of Miami Springs started battling a building fire at the old Post Office Annex on Main Street. As of 2010, there are only two remaining businesses in Miami Springs: an auto parts store and a restaurant that serves breakfast and dinner every day except Sunday from 6am to 10pm. The townspeople were among the first to use firearms for hunting during the early 1800s when deer were still common around here. After emancipation (1863), many African Americans began coming to live here as farmers or business people; most of them purchased rifles to hunt game they could not shoot with their hands or barnyard cats they could not catch with nets or bows and arrows! Firearms quickly became one of the town's defining features because without them, very few residents would have been able to protect themselves during times of crisis like Indian Removal (1865-68). One interesting firearm history anecdote from Miami Springs concerns General Wainwright’s visit here in 1915; he stopped by on his way south for Operation Crossroads which involved invading Haiti as part of World War I. While staying at the Knights Inn on US 1 nearpresent-day NW 2nd Avenue, General Wainwright inspected what turned out to be some new M1911 pistols being made by Springfield Armory; he commented favorably upon their design but declined any offers for purchase! Curiously enough, this particular pistol continues to be used today by law enforcement officers throughout Broward County! Today's residents are proud to call themselves "Hollywood Hills" homeowners because of all that their community has to offer: its beautiful landscapes, top-notch schools and hospitals, and world-famous shopping malls.

The Miami Springs area was first settled in the 1840s. At that time, the land was part of Indian Territory, and there were no roads or settlements. The Miami Springs Post Office was established in 1848, and it continued to serve until 1959. In that year, a new post office called Coral Gables opened up on New Year's Eve and served the community for over 50 years.
