This company manufactured lenses for telescope manufacturers such as directors Duffy and Krieger along with other optics products. In 1951, United States Optic Corporation changed its name to Milford Glass Works Incorporated and began producing optics products for Harrington Aircraft Corp., Beechcraft/Airframe Industries Inc., Douglas Aircraft Company, Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, Republic Aviation Corporation etc.. This company produces lenses for a variety of aircraft models both military and civilian including airplanes such as the DC-3A etc.. In 1984, Milford Glass Works Incorporated became Milford Optical Industries when it acquired all assets of United StatesOpticalCorp (USO). USO had ceased production in 1984 but their legacy continued through Milford Optical Industries until 2006 when it merged into – Schering plc.- an international cosmetics company headquartered in London England that also manufactures medical supplies

The name Miami Shores comes from the Miami River which runs through it and its sister communities of Cutler Bay and Margate. In 1892, A.P. Butler founded Cutler Bayou Jetty Company to provide shipping access to his salt mines in Margate Caye; he named his company after his home island ofCutler Bay on the Miami River. In 1896, Wacoalco Home Manufacturing Company was organized to produce agricultural implements in what would become Miami Shores; it was the first business in town and remains one of its most important employers today. In 1912, Haddon Heights Brewing Companys merged with Stroud & Sons Brewery to form Stroud-Haddon Brewery; this brewery still operates as a tourist attraction today along with Haddon Heights Hall which served as the town hall until 1971 when it was replaced by a new building on CutlersBayou Drive In 1924, Driscoll Paper Mills became one of the largest paper manufacturers in Florida; their paper products were used throughout South America and Europe before being exported back to the United States primarily through Herald Sun Newspapers who bought them in 1978. The mills closed down around 1990 but reopened as an agricultural museum in 2006 following a $10 million renovation that included expansion of their exhibit space and addition of a new restaurant/bar/nightlife complex called "Red Lobster". The museum also features restored farm equipment including dairy cows, pigs, chickens and corn cribs from Cutler Bayou Jetty Company which is open for visitation during regular hours only (closed Mondays).

Miami Shores was founded in 1916 by John A. Ormsby and his wife, Anna. The first post office in Miami Shores was established in 1917. In 1943, the town of Miami Shores became a city after being annexation by Fort Lauderdale.
