The Miami Shores community of Jacksonville, Florida is located on the small island of Homestead in St. Lucie County. The community was formed in 1905 when the two communities amalgamated. The first gun target to be shot at the Miami Shores Golf Course was a 20-pounder cannonball, and it was made by local man Harry Payne. The course closed in 1929 but reopened as a golf course in 1951. In 1957, the first state sanctioned IPSC pistol match took place at Miami Shores Golf Course after being approved by the Florida State Board of Education. In 1974, IPSC added a shotgun event to their schedule and held matches there until 1992 when they moved to Homestead Municipal Park for their remaining events. In 2007, Miami Shores Municipal Park became home to an IOWA game between Iowa State University and Drake University that attracted over 100,000 people to what had been Originally known as “Drake” Field which hosted soccer games from 1906 through 1949 before becoming a baseball diamond starting in 1951 with ASA (American Sport Association) rules then adopted by NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association). Today it is still called Drake Stadium as part of college football recruiting season due to its large seating capacity for both games and concerts throughout the year

Miami Shores is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,681 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1902 by George Washington Dixon and his family and named after the nearby Indian Key Lighthouse. Dixon's brother-in-law, James A. MacArthur, donated land for the village on which it now stands. The first post office opened in 1903 and served as the only stop on a stagecoach between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. In 1925, Miami Shores became one of twelve towns located within what is now South Florida Regional Airport (LUV). In 1965, it became an independent municipality when it voted to secede from Broward County Municipal Airport Authority; however its airport remains under Broward County jurisdiction. In November 2006, Miami Shores voters passed a ballot initiative to change its name to "Miami Beach". The new name was approved by referendum with 98% of ballots cast in support; however Airport authorities have threatened to revoke their lease if it becomes effective until they receive assurances that all aspects of airport operations will remain consistent with the new name.

Miami Shores is a small community located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The community was founded on October 10, 1913 by the merger of two small communities, Biscayne Park and Doral. The name Miami Shores comes from the phrase "shores ofiami", which means "shoreline of Miami". The original population of Miami Shores was only 100 people. In 1916, the United States Post Office moved to Miami Shores from Homestead and renamed it after Commodore Andrew J. Mellon's donation of land to the post office. In 1929, the city of Miami annexed part of Biscayne Park and became known as Biscayne City. However, in 1933 the city annexed all of Doral and changed its name to Doral City. On May 1, 1955, Hurricane Wilma destroyed much of South Beach in downtown Miami and flooded most parts of Biscayne Park with up to 20 feet (6 meters) of water; however, only a few homes were damaged or lost in what is now called "The Flood." On December 12th 1963 during an electrical storm surge caused by hurricane Agnes banks Ira Lee Gantt set off an electric fire that started behind a home at 5702 NW Cornerstone Drive; this ignited another fire that burned for days throughout the neighborhood until it was extinguished by firefighters on December 15th 1963. There have been many other fires over time but these are some representative instances: 1951 - A gas leak led to a house catching on fire outside; 1959 - A paper bag filled with nails went off when someone opened it; 1978 - An elderly couple had their garage blown open when they left for church early one morning; 1984 -Someone set light to cigars inside their car parked near SW 163rd Street & Gorham Avenue during lunchtime.; 1990 -A building belonging to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base caught on fire while Marines were waiting for their shift change.; 1997 -When schoolchildren found notes written in Spanish inside a recycling bin outside their school they alerted parents who then brought police officers onto their property.; 2005 -An Illegal Substance Use Disorder (DSM-III) assessment revealed that two teenagers residing within five miles (8 kilometers) radius were using crack cocaine daily;; 2008 .... official website
