The community was founded by Polish immigrants in 1920 as "Miamisburg". It was renamed to Miami Shores after it became a town in Broward County, Florida. The town burned down on May 1, 1925; however, the name continues to be used today. The first settlers were Poles and Slovaks who had immigrated there from Kraków and Lviv in southern Poland during World War I. They established a farmstead called "Zdrojowany" (Creek Stream) on what is now Northwest 2nd Street NW. In 1923 they built a house known as the Grosse House which still stands today on Northwest 2nd Street NW. This house served as the Headquarters of the Eastern European American Legion until 1947 when it became headquarters for the American Legion Auxiliary of Miami Shores Incorporated which remains headquartered here to this day..

The town name came from the shoal of bays called Biscayne Bay Islands. In 1892, Drury Shipbuilding Company started production in what is now Miami Shores and quickly became one of the most important shipyards in South Florida. By 1922, Drury had produced over 1,500 ships including many for American troops during World War I and World War II. The shipyard closed in 1992 but some parts have been reactivated as a cultural attraction with regular events like boat rides down to the docks where old vessels used to be moored. One particular section that still looms large is Drury's Engine House which has been converted into a museum dedicated to maritime history with exhibits about how boats were built and operated throughout history. Miami Shores also features several restaurants that serve up great seafood such as Joe’s Seafood Shack or Captain Morgan’s Rowboat Grill which are open year round and offer views of Key Biscayne from their decks or inside their restaurants which make for perfect dining experiences when you want to take your mind off things! There are plenty of other shops too like hardware stores, pharmacies etc., making it an easy place to get everything you need without having to leave your resort!
Miami Shores was founded in 1919 by Don Manuel Lopez and his wife, Nieves. The town began as a small farming community on the mouth of the Miami River. It quickly became a popular summer tourist spot due to its beautiful beaches, friendly people, and easy access to the city. By 1930, Miami Shores had over 100 businesses and 2,000 residents. In 1937, Don Manuel Lopez donated land to Miami-Dade County for development as a resort town called "The Keys." The towns name was changed to "Miami Beach" in 1959 after president John F Kennedy visited the town during his campaign for office.
