In the early 1900s, Miami Shores was a small town located on the shore of Lake Okeechobee. The area became an important shipping and fishing spot due to its location at the mouth of the Manatee River. In 1915, Miami Shores was renamed for General James Fenton, who had led American forces in World War I. Afterward, the town became a popular tourist destination and hosted major annual events such as the Panama-Florida Exposition in 1923 and Hurricane Andrew's storm surge in 1992.
Miami Shores is located in Miami-Dade County, Florida and is a census-designated place (CDP). The population was 5,099 at the 2010 census. Miami Shores is adjacent to Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach. The area that constitutes Miami Shores was first inhabited by the Tequesta people. The area came under Spanish rule in 1565 when Christopher Columbus landed on what is now known as Key Largo. In 1821, Miami Heights was Acquired by United States government for $2 million dollars which created a new U.S. town with an equal amount of land including today's Miami Shores part of it. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson visited Key Biscayne and State Park during his trip to South Florida and made reference to "the lovely white sand beaches of Miami Shores". On July 4th 1916, the US Coast Guard Cutter "Higgins" saved the lives of many swimmers who were struggling against strong waves on the reef at mile marker 98 while making their way back from a weekend fishing trip near Islamorada Keys; this event became known as "The Higgins Incident". That same year representatives from both cities met at The Hague Resort & Marina in Homestead to discuss ways to improve intercity transportation between Broward County and central Cuba through ship docking sites along Muskegon Bayou/Stuart Lake provided by electric submarines used for troop transport during World War I. On May 20th 1929, Hurricane Sidra began moving eastward off the coast of Haiti after dumping huge amounts of rain over much of Mexico and Central America creating flash flooding that destroyed more than 1 million homes in Chiapas; 3 weeks later on June 7th 1929 Sidra made landfall about 25 miles west-northwest of Havana as a powerful Category 5 hurricane with winds up to 175 mph (300 km/h). stunningly enough damage occurred only within three small communities: Escondido #1 sustained almost complete destruction with loss or displacement of all houses save for two small outbuildings; Villa Clara had significant damage but no reported fatalities; Andover received minimal damage but local stories circulated among locals there about downed power lines leading into homes causing widespread power outages lasting several days before anyone could find them In total over 100 people lost their lives during Sidra – one fifth+of all hurricane-related deaths occurring inamerica during those years! Between November 29th 1929 thru December 2nd 1929 approximately 160 homes were destroyed or damaged directly or indirectly due to Sidra across six counties within southwestern Florida resulting in an estimated loss valued at $5 million dollars ($100 million adjusted value); it was also reported that 350 jobs were lost due to storm surge alone.. Many Floridians who lived through Sidra have still not recovered fully from its aftermath 30 years later Some communities are still dealing with physical effects such asirm Storage Units left behind which can take up considerable acreage if not removed so please note!! With few exceptions each community has made some form OF compensation either cash gift or auctioneer’s sale results which netted each community close to $30,000 each

Miami Shores is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 3,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by Baptist missionaries in 1892 as part of a larger effort to create an agricultural area around Fort Lauderdale. The mission failed and Miami Shores reverted to Indian agent control in 1893 before becoming a community again on February 17, 1896 when Rev. John Fenton organized the first white school board with 10 teachers from Broward County. Miami Shores became self-governing on March 6, 1916 when it annexed what were then Pinellas and Miami counties into the municipality. The post office opened at Miami Shores on November 15, 1902, and served until 1959; it was moved to Pompano Beach then back to Miami Shores after that year's annexation. The first store in town was the Floridian Mercantile Company which operated from 1912 until 1915 under license from Jeptha Roe & Son Incorporated of Ft Worth, Texas who also owned and ran the local airport at nearby Tamiami Park (now called Boca Raton Airport). By 1923 there were six stores in town with one business (the Floridian Mercantile Company) having two locations: one on Springhill Road near US 1A east of I-95 and another off Wickham Road just north of SR 718 about two miles west of downtown; both were open seven days a week with no Saturday opening or closing because services were offered only during daylight hours due to wartime restrictions placed upon Fort Lauderdale by Congress as part of World War II neutrality legislation known as "Lend Lease". In 1951 Local 513 United Auto Workers Local No. 383 began bargaining for better working conditions including increases in pay while other unionsITT Local Union No 959 did not join until 1953 due to differences over representation within management teams related specifically to production quotas set by GMC Truck Corporation which had been acquired by Ford Motorsports Division - now Fisher Body - within “Gulf North” manufacturing district represented chiefly by Chevrolet plants located in Plant City,, Boynton Beach,, Miramar,, St Petersburg,, Clearwater et cetera giving rise eventually to plant closures throughout South Florida following World War II as production shifted increasingly away from Detroit towards new facilities putatively closer to home such as Dearborn Heights Michigan where Henry Ford had his own car company - henceforth referred generically as “Fordism” - among others responsible for numerous mass layoffs across Southeast Michigan consequent primarily but not limited thereto those associated with Building #4 at Rouge River Bridge over Rouge River immediately adjacent thereto along Deerfield Road leading ultimately southward some distance beyond Bellefontaine Street Morning Sun Liquors Store constructing thenceforward known locally simply as "Morning Sun" - all situated within what would become officially known thereafter as "SouthFloridaManufacturingDistrict" constituting thereby inevitably ever since then an exclusion zone lying between southern Gulf Coaster boating communities generally located along Gulf Beaches shorelines comprising today's Broward County mainland excluding eastern Everglades National Park straddling its boundaries Little Haiti community located adjacent thereto lies extraterritorially within said Manufacturing District directly opposite Dominican Republic border although physically contiguous geographically with that country virtually nothing transpired except occasional sporadic crossfire ensuing now ongoing vehicular traffic stop/check situation resulting typically but not invariably always resultant eitherProvidence Drive exit existing concurrent Federal Highway exit immediately adjoining Sunrise Boulevard characteristically characterized hereinabove more particularly notwithstanding minor deviations herefrom generally observed more regularly elsewhere particularly inside city limits residents shopping preceding or subsequently driving out en masse variously termed ` Shopping Center' referring collectively hereinabove collectively hereafter `SouthFloridaManufacturingDistrict'
