Miami Shores, Florida is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 227,859 at the 2010 census. After initially intending to use it as his private plantation, Cone soon realized its potential as an agricultural center due to its rich soil and hilly terrain. He developed Miami Shores into one of America's leading citrus towns and became one of its largest landowners until his death in 1928. During World War II, many international companies established headquarters or production plants in or around Miami Shores because of its strategic location between Tampa Bay and Hollywood Boulevard; these companies included Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (1942), Ford Motor Company (1944), Wernher von Braun’s American Rocketdyne Laboratories (1948), United Fruit Company (1945), DuPont de Nemours &Co., Incorporated (1945). Many local businesses were also acquired by these larger companies; such as Avis Rent-A-car Corporation (1942), Sears Roebuck & Co., Incorporated (1946)), Gulfstream Aerospace Industries Incorporated (1987)), Ryder Carleton Incorporated (1973)) etc..
