Miami Lakes is a small town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 7,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1901 by J.P. Morgan and his partners John Denton and George Fenton as a citrus grove on 3 acres (1 hectare) east of what is now Northwest First Street in Miami Lakes. The name "Miami Lakes" was chosen because it sounded like the name of an Indian reservation in central Florida where they were born and raised. In 1922, one of J.P.'s children, James Prentice Morgan Jr., sought to improve access to water for farming operations on his family's 33-acre tract near present-day Fourth Avenue and Northwest Second Street in Miami Lakes by building a dam across Umatilla River which emptied into Lake Okeechobee through Mr. Morgan's property on Third Street near today's Marco Island Park Boulevard. Today’s streets were named after Mr. Morgan’s descendants: Fourth Avenue (James Prentice Morgan Jr.'s estate), Northwest Second Street (Henry A.) Dixon Road (Richard SennettMorgan Sr.'s estate), and Marco Island Park Boulevard (John Daniel Hickey). In 1935, when Miami-Dade County became part of the United States, nearby Biscayne Bay became unincorporated territory; however, Biscayne Gardens proper remained within city limits until 1959 when it annexed most of South Beach/Miami Beach as well as all but 1/3 of North Beach/Miami Shoreline including today’s downtown areas along Eighth Avenue between Washington Drive NW and Kendall Drive NW - making Biscayne Gardens also the second largest city municipality in Broward County after Fort Lauderdale proper - with its own City Hall building on Flagler St., just south of Da Vinci Way SW between First Ave./Washington Dr./Kennedy Blvd./Eighth Ave./Bay Dr.—making it possible for an incorporated city with its own police departmentMini shopping centres such as Coral Gables Marketplace Shopping Center off Airport Rd., Key Largo Plaza Shopping Center off Executive Parkway NE corner post office Rd., Hollywood Mall off US 1 & 15Ave SW corner Monroe AveSW corner Estero Rd.—all having their own zoning lawsand limits to development while allowing larger shopping centre developments within city limits only if approved by City Council—a process that has been repeated annually since 1959 without any major changes taking place other than minor updates to address newly discovered properties or changing street names etc.—such as recent plans for a new mall outside Downtown Miramar called “Redevelopment At Miramar” which would have extended Sunrise Highway east from I-95 past State Rd 441 north to Martin Luther King Jr Drive NW—a proposal that met opposition from residents who alleged that this would be another large enclosed mall next to Pinellas Park airport with high traffic levels and little open space inside or outside the mall—the proposal being abandoned after being opposed by both Mayor Don Shriver [LINK] who felt that this would be contrary to what downtown Miramar had become known for since he came into office in 1990[COPY] as well as members of Congress such as Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart [LINK] who objected because Sunrise Highway runs through their district rather than passing through it like most other districts—an objection that eventually led to developers withdrawing their plans[] [] After World War II ended, Milton Hershey Company bought much of self-governing Palm Beach County.[5] This included land around Miami Lakes westward from I-95 onto Boynton Bluff Road,[6][7][8][9][10] adjoining Tom Cruise's home thereon; thenceforth runnin'westward 'til Manatee Creek ran athwart us on our southern border at Tamiami Trail West.[11] This left only 8 acres (3 hectares) surrounding the original Fruitlands Trailer Park still undeveloped beside today's intersection of Northeast 144th St.–WNW 2nd Ave.–SE 176th St.–NE 75th Dr.–Northeast 137th St.–WNW 6th Ave.–SE 133rd St–WNW 5th Ave.; these parcels comprising approximately .4% (.02%) total area currently occupied by Miami Lakes although some development has occurred recently at various locations adjacent thereto including .2% (.01%) at mile marker 190 along Northeast 144th Terrace from WDWPDEN SE 2nd Av DW side – opposite current site of Trump National Golf Club –site formerly occupied by Avis Rent A Car[12]) []

Lakes became an important stop on Florida's citrus trade during the early 1900s and its growth continued through World War II when it became an important military training site for servicemen and their families. In 1957, Miami Lakes was incorporated as a town in cooperation with neighboring Coral Gables and Kendallville; it remained part of that municipality until 2000 when it became one of its own again under cityhood laws passed that year by then- Mayor Carlos Gimenez. The economy has been based largely on tourism since its incorporation; however, other businesses have begun to emerge over time including grocery stores, churches, restaurants and bars - many of which are still active today. In recent years there has been some development around mixed use projects such as mixed use developments along Biscayne Boulevard called "The Village" or "Mixed Use District".
Miami Lakes was a small community in Miami County, Florida, United States. The only store in the community was the Miami Lakes Post Office which closed its doors on October 1, 1978.
