The first services were held at the old Methodist Episcopal Church in nearby Dade City on December 1, 1902. On October 15, 1907, theMount Olivet Baptist Church purchased a tract of land from John Witherspoon for $1,000 cash. The church moved to its new location on February 6, 1908 and dedicated the new building that same day. The Mount Olivet Baptist Church has been growing steadily since its founding and now houses over 2200 members across thirteen states and Canada!
Miami Lakes is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Boca Raton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was first developed as a farming village on the lower reaches of the Miami River. In 1892, James A. Fenton purchased 5 square miles (12 km2) of land in what is now Miami Lakes and renamed it after his hometown of Lakesfield, New York. Fenton's family had operated a farm there for generations and many of their descendants still live in the community today. The Village became a resort community in 1925 when developer William Kapp set up shop there; he named it after Major General Winfield Scott Polk who had been military governor of Cuba at the time and helped create Key Biscayne National Park on MIA Bayou nearpresent-day Fenton Island Anchorage

In 1837, Miami Lakes was named after the Muskegon Lake in Michigan. The name came from a group of Seminole Indians who had enslaved some white settlers there. In 1841, the United States Congress authorized the purchase of 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of land near Miami Lakes by the Miami and Erie Railroad. The land was used to build an express railroad line between Cincinnati, Ohio and Fort Myers, Florida. The town was founded on November 14, 1851, when a group of settlers led by Captain John A. Jumper arrived at the site.
