The Miami Lakes Pistol Club, Inc. was founded in 1948 by two men who were interested in pistol shooting and the NRA. The first club meeting was held on October 2nd at the home of Mrs. Florence Pinsky, located on NE 117th Street in Miami Lakes. With just a few members, they organized themselves into a shoot-and-shoot session to hold at the local YMCA which met every other week. They shot some pistols but soon realized that they needed better equipment so they went to the local sporting goods store and bought their first rifle, an American M1 carbine. In 1951 they moved to 204 N Key West Avenue and started using this address for their meetings and clubhouse until 1957 when they moved again to 208 NW Second Avenue which is now their current location. In 1957, Mr. Bob Sprague became president of MLCI and Mr John Snider became secretary/treasurer/managing editor (later publisher). On May 14th 1959 another shoot-and-shootsession was organized at the Fayetteville High School gymnasium with about 30 members from throughout Miami Lakes area participated including many children under 10 years old! This event is still considered one of the most successful NRA events ever held in Florida! The next year saw an increase in membership as people beganTo realize that there could be much more than just pistol shooting happening within this small community of retirees! In 1961 MLCI purchased a Savage Model 1894 rifle from Al Schneider who had been president of National Firearms Association (NRA) since 1954; it was donated by Ritchie McKay, Jr., son of Sam McKay (founder of MGM Grand Resort Casino). Soon after this purchase MLCI made national headlines when they placed second at an NRA sanctioned firearms competition sponsored by FBI lab labs across town known as “The Big Show” where all types of handguns were tested including boresights etc; this event helped foster public opinion against any type gun control laws being proposed or passed during those days! In 1966 Don Weisman became our third president after serving as vice president for eight years preceding that time; during his presidency we continued to make national headlines with several high profile events such as winning first place at an NRA sanctioned competition sponsored by Bureau Of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms & Explosives (ATF) behind closed doors where all type handguns were tested including bore sighting etc.; these tests gave us valuable experience which we would use many times later on when competing against federally regulated manufactures!! Mr Weisman left office in 1978 due to health reasons but his successor Don Ladd took over until his death on September 3rd 1984; during his term we increased membershipby almost 100%. Miami Lakes is a town in Miami County, Florida, United States. It was incorporated on November 12, 1899. The population was 1,819 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from "miamite", an Indian word meaning "a place where maize is gathered."

Miami Lakes is a census-designated place located in Miami County, Florida. The population was 2,713 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1922, developer Rufus Ewing erected a dam across the Little Miami River to create Lake Michigan water for his new citrus plantation (Ewing's "Lake Italy"). In 1951, sections of South Dade and North Dade were annexed into Miami Lakes as part of an effort to improve civic services in unincorporated areas of Greater Miami County. This annexation created two communities: East Shoreway and West Shoreway. In 1984, Pembroke Pines Boulevard was named after then-Mayor Emilio Herrera who made it one of his first public projects when he took office in 1983. Herrera dedicated the Boulevard to commemorate all those who have contributed to make Miami Lakes an important community within GreaterMiami area since its inception in 1921: school board members Mrs. Ruby Williams (1911−2002), Mrs. Florence Jameson (1911−2004), Judge Edwin Vail (1900−1978), Mr./Mrs.(d/b/a) Alice Bogan (1896−1985) Orange Bowl players Willie Dixon and Mick Jagger, architects Tod Browning and Leon Levy with their families and others who have helped shape what is now known as "the Jewish Village."

The Miami Lakes area was first settled in the early 1800s by colonists from England. The area was originally known as "the swamp" because of its lack of fresh water. In 1838, the Miami and Erie Railroad was built through this area, and soon afterwards, a community began to form around it. The name "Miami" came from the Miami River, which ran through the area. In 1848, the United States Congress passed a bill authorizing President James K. Polk to purchase land in what is now Florida for military purposes. Polk selected the Miami Lakes region as his location for this purpose. This purchase allowed for development of this area into one of America's most important industrial centers. Over time, other businesses have also been founded in Miami Lakes, including several insurance companies and a number of manufacturing companies. Today, Miami Lakes is an important center for business and culture in Florida.
