Miami Lakes is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 2,519 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was developed on a tract of land that had been purchased by the Seminole Tribe of Indians in 1834 from Captain James Kenedy and other Spanish colonists. A post office called "Lakes" was established in 1835, and remained in operation until 1886. In 1898, during World War I, it became a base for American forces occupying Cuba; as such, there were many U.S military installations dotting the landscape around Miami Lakes. The post office closed in 1922 when the military base moved out. At its peak during the 1930s, Miami Lakes boasted over 100 businesses and 1,000 residents. However, by 1940 only 6 businesses still operated within its boundaries- all of which had closed since then. Since then much of what once characterized Miami Lakes has either disappeared or become extremely unaffordable to most people; including downgrading its water supply to desalinization solutions (a process that remove salt from water). In fact even now portions of town are still far too polluted to live within while also having few if any non-profit organizations acting as stewardship professionals with regards to keeping things clean and healthy for future generations... In recent years there have been efforts made by local groups like Keep It Clean which have endeavored to revive some aspects of life in town but it's clear that much work remains before anything resembling antypical Main Street life can be seen or experienced again anywhere near thisihara!

Miami Lakes is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,000 at the 2010 census. Miami Lakes is bordered by the city of Homestead to the north and east, Cutler to the south, Doral to the west and northwest, and Kendall Park to the south. The first settler in Miami Lakes was Major Edwin Byers who arrived in 1838. Byers built a home on what would become present day Main Street. In 1839 Captain John Cookestein and his family moved from Illinois into what is now Miami Lakes when they discovered land suitable for cultivation nearwhat is today Main Street. Cookestein named his new settlement after Sir George Washington's Mount Vernon – "George Washington's Place". In 1847 Isaac Chaffee purchased 640 acres (2 km²) of land east of Main Street from Captain John Cookestein for $1 per acre ($48 per km²). Today much of this property forms part of University Park Reserve located on Flagler Beach Boulevard just south of I-95 exit 281A. Chaffee also developed a small business district around what is now Southwood Drive which he called "Chaffeetown". He died in 1865 without leaving any children behind so his estate passed through several hands until it was sold to J P Kennedy in 1916 for $3 million dollars ($ as of 2019). John F Kennedy owned part of Chafeestown until he sold it off to developer Armand Hammer in 1965 which transformed it into one of South Florida's most popular tourist destinations with more than 2 million visitors each year since its opening. During World War II many homes were used as military barracks nearby including what is now US Air Force Base Miramar which played an important role during that conflict as well as providing defense against communist threats within South Florida area. After JFK's assassination many residents fled Chicago or other cities affected by violence following his death while others chose not to move and continue living there rural style although some did sell their homes back home during those years despite being out of reach for most buyers due to high housing prices then available inside urban areas such as Coral Gables or Miami Beach outside downtown limits then known as Overtown/ DowntownMiami proper . In 1979 owner/manager Joe Visconti decided that enough time had passed since JFK's death so he dismantled all but two structures remaining from JFK's childhood home on Northwest First Avenue - one still stands today next doorto public library serving ZIP code 33139 - making way for new development including several thousand apartments soon followed throughout much lower section currently bounded by NW 1st Ave., Brickell Ave., Americas Way Northeast & Old Country Road where major shopping center has been planned along with sports stadium capable seating over 100,000 people across 3 levels overlooking downtown making way for an office park , another hotel complex & large retail mall grocery store are also under construction adjacent water feature next Glades Marina
Miami Lakes was a reservoir on the Miami River in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It was created by the New Deal Works Progress Administration in 1933 as part of the Great Lakes Basin Project. The lake was renamed for General James K. Polk in 1949 and became a part of Lake Okeechobee after it was formed from parts of Lake Manatee and Lake Apalachicola.
