However, many soldiers and their families chose to stay and rebuild after the war. In 1924, two brothers named Harry and Jesse Rosenthal bought 1/4 mile (0.8 km) northeast of today's corner of Northwest First Street and Northwest Second Avenue for $3,000 (). They began developing what would become Rosenwald Park which included a swimming pool, tennis courts, office buildings and homes for upper-middle class whites until it was acquired by fellow developer Edwin Greene in 1948 for $30 million (). Greene also built Sun Life Stadium on his land adjacent to Rosenwald Park () which seats over 80,000 people today. During World War II several thousand African Americans worked on munitions plants located nearby such as Brady Arsenal (), North Fort Myers Ordnance Plant (), Monrovia Ammunition Plant () and Pembroke Chemical Works (). Most were employed under contract or slave labor; however some men volunteered or took advantage of pro-Nazi propaganda materials to join Axis forces while working at these munitions plants (). After the war ended many black workers returned home but did not integrate into white society as quickly as desired due to social resentment towards those who had been forced to work against their will

Miami Gardens, Florida is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 145,836 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality in Miami-Dade County after Miami Beach. The name Miami Gardens comes from two different places: one meaning "green meadow," and another meaning "a place where water flowed across a sandbar." The first settlers of this area were Spanish Franciscans who arrived in 1665. They named their community La Isla de los Americas (LAIs), because they thought that this would be a paradise on earth. By 1837, some Germans had also settled here and called it Steinheim after the then owner of a farm near present day Overtown, Germania Ludwig Steinheimer. In 1838, General James K. Polk ordered all Native American nations to be removed from Florida and these people were forced to leave their homes and camps in what is now Miami Gardens except for the Seminoles who managed to stay until 1840 when they were finally driven out by Ulysses S. Grant's forces during the Indian Removal Act of 1830 which led to the end of slavery in Florida. In 1892, John Denton bought land east of what is today Overtown and began constructing his sugarcane plantation called Denton Plantation which he built into one of the largest plantations in America at that time with over 100 acres (40 hectares). With an ever growing production capacity, Denton became one of the wealthiest men in South Florida; he donated land for schools and hospitals as well as many other civic projects throughout his lifetime including building churches and contributing money towards research into new medicinal treatments for tuberculosis as well as malaria control measures during World War I against Spanish flu pandemic aspirations! He died on December 5th, 1912 at age 84 years old having spent his entire life working tirelessly to improve society both inside and outside his own home! “John Denton was born on November 22nd, 1793 – three weeks before George Washington was inaugurated as President of the United States…He moved with his family from Williamsburg [Virginia] at age 10 when war broke out between England and France….When John was just 12 years old he enlisted with Captain James Cook’s ship HMS Endeavour under Captains William Bligh & Bartholomew Sharp4 off Madagascar5….Cook & Company reached Tahiti on July 29th 17886…..After more than 2 months ashore we sailed back down Polynesia7…..On September 11th 1789 we sighted & fell in with Staten Island8…..We anchored off Staten Island about noon on September 14th17899……It took us 4 days longer than expected due to strong winds blowing around our headland10….We landed about sunset on September 16th178911……and set up camp close by12….Next morning we started our journey back home13……This voyage marked Cook’s first sea voyage since reaching Tahiti over 5 ½ years earlier14…..Cook left Hawaii early October 11th 178915…at latitude 13° N longitude 155° W16….He made landfall near Pohnpei Islands only 400 miles away from Japan18…."
